Title: Roxio / Sonic / Installshield on a Dell
Post by: MTCD on June 25, 2006, 03:36:09 PM
I just finished correcting the Sonic Update Manager missing CDrom problem on my Dell by removing the the Roxio CD-DVD Copying Software that I never use, when I was presented with the Sonic Activation Module missing CDrom problem so I uninstalled the Sonic from ControlPanel\Add-Delete programs and Program Files and I uninstalled the Installshield software entirely and scrubbed the registry of all the leftovers (nearly 200 broken keys). So now all of it is gone and the error messages no longer appear.

My Questions are: Should I reinstall the Installshield software? Is it really shielding me from anything? or just driving software updates for programs on my computer that I may not be using? or does it have other functions i am not aware of?

Installshield is part of MANY software installations. If one is needed for a particular program it will use it's own. You are good to go.  ;)
