Title: forum post times differ when logged in or out
Post by: soybean on July 15, 2006, 08:47:45 PM
I've noticed that there's a two hard difference in the times shown when logged in vs. logged out.  For example, a last post time of 10:44 p.m., when logged in, will read 8:44 p.m. when logged out.

The forum time is set to US Central (I think) so don't worry about it :)

(You can report this to the YaBB bugs in the YaBB community)

As you would expect unless you happen to live in the same time zone as CH.
It has to do with the Earth's rotation. ;)

What? It rotates?

Yes, report it!  :D
They would take a glance, and then, in their error prone heads, they would make it worse and pretend they didn't know it would happen.
(They are more then error prone. )

If it rotates why don't we go spinning off the planet into outer space ...? ?

I'm confused.

Because the sun is pulling us into it while the earth (a rock) is also trying to pull away from in into space.

Basically:
Were being pulled towards the sun, but were also moving in a direction away from it.
We just got caught up and began to orbit!

So, my humor starts here:
Now what happens if we get off the orbit and fall away?
(OH NO! ITS PROBABLY GOING TO HAPPEN! WERE GONNA DIE!)

Eh, we've all heard of gravity.  Yes?  No?

Some Newton guy used to mention it in his works.  ::)

Eh, we've all heard of gravity.  Yes?  No?
But, but, its not all gravity!
Its the force of the earth moving away as well!
(Thus, not all gravity!)
WERE ALL GONNA DIE!

But really, how could there be such an even balance. Why are we not moving more towards the earth, or more away from it. One force should be stronger than the other. Anyone have any conclusions? Rob?

Eh, zylstra555, I think maybe you should visit the science library for awhile.  And, Google would probably love to help with this.  For example: http://www.howstuffworks.com/question232.htm

Gravitational force = (G * m1 * m2) / (d2)
where G is the gravitational constant, m1 and m2 are the masses of the two objects for which you are calculating the force, and d is the distance between the centers of gravity of the two masses.

So, your saying, that once it gets to a point right near center, it kind of locks on because of the gravitational force?

While you're at it you might want to read up on Einstein's special and general theories of relativity which predicts how gravity bends space-time.

Don't understand a word of it, myself.

Well, we all have limited knowledge.
If I were to hear it, it wouldn't stick very well if I read it.
I stopped reading a LONG time ago.
