anyone remember how to do this? I can see my HD in BIOS but when im done loading the boot disk I cant find the HD prompt to format it. Am i forgetting something?
-
Oh yes, i think the HD is formatted NFTS>>> or something like that so I have to repartision it maybe?
-
Delete the parttition and recreate one and then format it.
How big is the hard drive and what version of 95 is it? The earlier ones could only use FAT16 which limits you to 2 gig partition sizes.
-
um its a 8 gig and its version is ........ not sure oon that. It came with my old gateway 2000. On the formatting thing, I cant find the drive to format it. My floppy is drive a and my cdrom is drive r but my hd is ?????
-
Is the hard drive seen correctly in the BIOS? If not, anything else is futile.
Is the drive a new addition to the computer? What happened prior to this reinstall plan? How is itt jumpered? What is the make and model?
If the drive is functional and seen ccorrectly you may just have to make a 2 gig partition to install to find out what you have. The first primary hard drive is always C.

pcj240ross...... Does your boot disk contain the format command ........because if it has , once the boot disk has loaded and you get the A: prompt , you simply type .... Format C: and enter and away it goes .
dl65 ::)
-
yes it does but when i do that it cannot find the hd.... says invalid drive spec. Yes my bios sees it
-
type in fdisk and press enter from the A:> prompt.
That is where you can delete the existing partitions and then create a new one. Then you have to reboot and format the drive. THEN you can install. (See Reply #2)
If it is formatted as NTFS it cannot be seen! Windows 95 does not speak that language.

Do you think one of these 16 year olds would know this stuff. ;)
-
no probably not :). I still have a functioning c64. the ext drive is broken though. Ive been trying to find someone to fix it for like two years....no luck. Know anyone?
-
At least you had an external drive. I had to back up to a cassette recorder!

Repairs and parts were always a problem for Commodores. :-/

oh man i remember those. Remember the floppy disks how you could make em 2 sided with a hole puncher!! I remember laghing at the idiots in the stores buying double sided disks when there were single ones for 1/2 of the price.

I havent used win 95 in like 10 years!! Im so excited!!!
Utterly baffling. ;)
You might be able to bag some C64 spares on eBay. :)
-
Yes, I had to get rid of my TI eventually so I could move to newer technology. ;)

I wonder what its going to be like when I'm 50 , and I'm telling people of the Advent of Windows Revolutionary GUI'S and how My Massive PC was a WHOLE 266MHz They'll Be Amazed!
Of course the First time i used a PC it Was a 286 and was running dos, but that was in my First Year off School and the whole School had to share one Computer. It had a game on it to learn how to Spell, ... it put up a picture of an Egg and you then had to type in Egg, that would have been fine , only i couldn't tell that the picture was an Egg
