Title: Problems - autoexec.bat & config.sys?
Post by: JCHPNC on September 13, 2004, 04:00:30 PM
We have a PC running Windows 98 - when you look in the autoexec.bat & config.sys file there are no entries.  Could this be why I cannot use my CD-Rom drive?

When the system is booting up - it detects the drive and the device manager says it is working properly.  I have removed it and then restarted my computer but it still won't work.

Thanks

Config and autoexec are not needed to operate any device under Windows.  They are needed to operate from DOS.

Any suggestions to troubleshoot the CD-Rom Drive?  This all started when NAV was scanning incoming e-mail - NAV has now been manually uninstalled because I could not uninstall using Add/Remove programs.

Device Manager recognizes the drive, but it will not work.

Thanks
