are you anti-icon or something?
-
ok here is my work desktop.. i had to clean it up a bit so it wouldnt look so bad.
i only wish i would have taking a pic of my school desktop.. it would have scared most of you. i would log on before school started in the morning and go get breakfast and by the time i got back it would be finished loading the desktop. and for the rest of my classes i just used to student account and transferred my work back and forth to save time. my schools it department labeled me as the most wanted for server space. i had over 10% of the whole schools server space. i had over 40 games and a week of music plus all of my school work.. :-[
and i hide all of my stuff across the servers so when the deleteed it i just got it back.. lol i was there worst nightmare, thats why ithink they were happy to get me as a helper my senior year to hunt down hidden music and stuff for them. i also kept a log of holes in the system for my records so i could look at myspace and play games whenever i wanted. of course i gave that to them when i graduated, cuz i didnt want anyone to just have my log i wanted some one to learn to find the holes them self. i still give hints to students when they ask me.

panboy, I'd be interested in seeing some studies or tests verifying what you say. I'm inclined to think the icons I have on my desktop have no significant effect on system performance.
Aside from desktop icons, one performance setting I do use is found in nVidia's nVeiw Desktop Manager panel. I keep a check in the box on the Effects tab for Make windows minimize and maximize faster. This disables the standard fade in/out effect that Windows uses when minimizing and maximizing windows.

Sidewinder, where did you get that Office shortcut bar? I've see one that looked like that. What version of Office is that? I've used the shortcut bar with Office 97, but it's not part of Office 2003.
-
i know soybean
my statement was a lie, its just elitist.
however since Ive started only putting the programs i use in as tool bars, its essayer to find the programs i want
-
Yah, toolbars are good. I have my Desktop set as a toolbar. I also use the Quick Launch toolbar.
-
Sidewinder,
Your thereapist assured me there are at least 27 brain cells left...so there's still hope !
;D

The Office CD holder mentions Office XP Pro with Publisher 2002. I did here mention that Microsoft was going to discontinue the ShortCut Bar. Must be another of those famous features you hear so much about.
Therapist? 27? He probably just said that to make himself look good. Let's just see what he says when I forget to pay him.
;D

My desktop gets so cluttered with icons (Firefox's fault for defaulting downloads there) that every so often I made a new folder and dump everything in it. Then repeat. There are about five or six generations of desktop. ::)

This is my desktop.

E-Andrew:
That's a very peaceful desktop you have there. (It only reminds me of *GASP* SCHOOL!)

This is not a fault of FireFox...it is easily changed to wherever you want.

Open the image in 'Paint', click 'Image', 'Stretch/Skew...'
Under 'Stretch', add the correct percentage and click ok. (Use the same percentage for 'Horizontal' and 'Vertical' so the image is not distorted.)
-
OR you could convert it to GIF or JPG.... ::)
