I got Windows 2000 with SP3 and MSPaint wont open jpgs or gifs. I dont get it....Paint is supposed to support jpgs in W98 and up...
-
It does. I don't know what your problem is there.
How are you trying to open them? By starting Paint, and then going to File, Open, or by locating the photo files in Explorer and double clicking on them, or what? What happens when you try to open them?
-
I open it thru Start>Programs>Accessories...etc.
Then a box comes up saying "Paint cannot read this file, or its format is not currently supported"
-
Can you locate those files in Explorer and verify that the filenames have the proper extension for JPG or GIF files?
-
yes.
i click on the pictures properties and it says "JPEG image" and the extension is .jpg....
-
Do you have a floppy jalopy drive in that computer, or a flash drive? If so, can you put one of those JPG files on it, take it to another computer, and see if Paint will open the file?
-
already tried it. This has got to be something simple. Could it be my drivers or something? Could it be my copy of W2000?
-
I suggest you take a look at some of this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=MS+Paint+error&btnG=Google+Search
-
ill see what i can find...thanks..
-
Do these files have "image" icons, or the default "unknown" file type icons? Try actually opening them in Internet Explorer, which I know can open those file types.
-
From a command prompt type sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your Win2K CD handy...Windows will ask for it.
Otherwise you can DLoad and install Irfranview and open those pics...if this doesn't work i'm afraid your image files are corrupt.

Why not have a look in the software FAQ and get yourself something better than MS Paint? Paint.NET is a good starting point. See the link in my signature.
