Title: Brand new Barebone problem
Post by: HugoMex on October 03, 2006, 11:23:05 AM
I BOUGHT A “BAREBONE” PC (XPC NS21G5, BY SHUTTLE COMPANY) AND I BOUGHT THE FOLLOW HARDWARE TO BUILD MY NEW BRAND COMPUTER:

HARD DISK SEAGATE, 250 GB ULTRA ATA HD,7200 RPM 16 MB CACHE
RAM:KINGSTON 512MB DDR400 , KVR400/512R PC3200 CL3
PROCESSOR: AMD ATHLON 64 X2 DUAL CORE+ BOX 939 3800+ SOCKET 939
DVD +-RW, LITE-ON 165H LIGHTSCRIBE
MONITOR PROVIEW, VGA 1024 X 768

I FOLLOWED THE XPC INSTALLATION GUIDE, ABOUT PROCESSOR, RAM, HDD AND
DVD, BUT I HAVE A HDD WITH IDE CONNECTOR, SO I CHANGE THE HD JUMPER TO
MASTER POSITION AND DVD TO SLAVE POSITION, I CONNECTED BOTH TO IDE
CONNECTION .
THE MANUAL SHOWS A SERIAL CONNECTION FOR HDD, THAT I DO NOT HAVE IT.
I TURN ON THE PC AND THE FAN IS RUNNING, BUT I HAVE NOT VIDEO MONITOR SIGNAL
(OUTPUT) FROM THE PC, I CHECKED MY MONITOR AND IT IS WORKING GOOD.
I HAVE NO VIDEO SIGNAL TO THE MONITOR, THE LIGHT OF POWER AND HDD
ACCESS  ARE TURN ON, AND THE FAN IS RUNNING.

DOU YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IS WRONG?, MAYBE IS THE MOTHERBOARD DAMAGE (EVEN IS BRAND NEW).

I WILL APPRECIATE YOUR HELP,

All hardware seated? Every power connector connected?

How did you install the CPU? Did anything happen that shouldn't have happened? Any bad noises?

Turn off the caps lock...

Start with only the basics and re-check all your connections
RAM
Vid card
CPU

Remove everything else.
Are you getting any beeps on powerup at all ? ?
Is this a new PSU ? ?
Did you try these components as listed before mounting the MBoard in the case ? ?
I suggest a rubber mat for this procedure.
Take all ESD precautions in doing so.

No beeps is not a good sign...contact the vendor and request a replacement MBoard.

All the components are barnd new, I checked the Specs for these, and are correct.

I checked the RAM (I exchanged to other port), I installed the processor and cooler good.

I took all the ESD preventions.

You could as easily have crushed the processor, so test both mainboard and processor before requesting RMA.

So you think, even it is brand new (with all quality test passed) is damage?

I bougth them at Frys Electronics at Portland Oregon, should I have to return all the components, and change the brand?

Or just chang the barebone?

so test both mainboard and processor before requesting RMA.

Products that are DOA can happen, but you have to be sure it's the mainboard and not the processor. Or both.

Did you connect the +12V 4 pin connector and 20/24 pin PSU connector?

How can I test Motherboard and processor if I have not additional HW for test them?

You'll somehow have to obtain some.Or perhaps have them tested at the PC store you bought them, since they're brand new I doubt they'll charge you anything. And if they do, well then you know what store to evade next time.  ;)

I bought a Barebone with all the connectors (power and communications ports) pre-installed, I just installed carefully the processor, RAM and HDD with the pre-installed connectors

The mother board is pre-installed in a Barebone system , it is made by Shuttle Company (Made in Taiwan)
