Title: Windows 2000 Startup Error
Post by: pchelp on October 10, 2006, 10:04:50 AM
I get a blue screen when I start up my laptop (IBM) with MS Windows 2000. The message tells me to run CHKDSK /F but I cannot get to the screen to enter the command. I can't even run it in safe mode. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Have you tried booting to your 2000 cd and do a recovery?

Can you access Windows?

No, I cannot access Windows. The blue screen appears as it tries to start Windows. I can get to the Windows screen where it shows the status of the startup and half way through I get the blue screen. Hope that makes sense.

Looks like you need to purchase a copy of Windows, whatever variety you want, or borrow an appropriate one to do the chkdsk with.

In the end EVERYONE needs a legal copy for their own.

I can't even run it in safe mode.
Does that mean you can't run the computer in safe mode or you can't run chkdsk in safe mode?
What is it?

Travel to bootdisk.com and grab a WinME bootdisk and run chkdsk from the floppy at startup...

If you have a floppy drive download and use the 4 disk set maker
for Windows 2000.Just double click on the Icons and insert a floppy
disk.Number them 1-4 of course.

Thanks everyone for your help!

So, once I download the 4 set disk maker how do I execute the file? I can't get Windows to open.

Boot with the first floppy....it will prompt you for each next floppy til all 4 have been read. You will then see the A: prompt...
