Title: internet explorer 7 problem
Post by: kyra on November 06, 2006, 05:57:50 PM
i recently upgraded to internet explorer 7 and noticed now that there are random lags in my system, such as when i select files in windows explorer or simply hit the windows start key on my keyboard. i'm using xp pro and everything's current with windows update. i've also done scandisk, defrag, anti spy/virus

additionally, it caused my yahoo anti-virus to get an error. i didn't like ie7 anyway, so i went back to ie6. the anti-virus error is gone, but i still get that annoying lag. can anyone help me? i'd much appreciate it. thankie ^__^

Have you done any regular maintenence on this machine lately ? ?
Run chkdsk
Run defrag

Update and run all your security scans.

What are you running for protection BTW ? ?

I've have problems with IE 7 also. After I installed IE 7 It wouldn't load web sites. It kept saying that the web sites were blocked (ports 80 & etc.. blocked) or web sites were not availiable. So I gave up and uninstalled IE 7 and went back to IE 6. There are too many bugs in IE 7. I saw that there were a fix for IE 7 somewhere but I wasn't able to download because the stupid IE 7 wouldn't let me access the microsoft web site.

IMHO, Microsoft should have worked out the bugs in IE 7 before they released it.

yes, i've done all the maintenance...spyware/virus check, chkdsk, scandisk thorough/repair, defrag and windows update

i'm using at&t yahoo online protection

i have another annoyance this has caused, too. when i have internet explorer open and switch to another program, it sometimes covers up whatever i'm switching to. meaning i select the program but can't see it because the ie window won't let me until i minimize it

M$ is aware of some of the problems (it's not that they're advertising them, but this link provides some fixes):

Also, if you decide to try IE 7 that you do not install the beta version of the program:

And this link explains how to uninstall IE 7 and install IE6:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx

You might want to try downloading and installing IE 6 from this site:

thanks for responding ^__^ i did the uninstall within about 10 minutes of "upgrading" to ie7. i just downloaded ie6 via the link you gave me, and it tells me that my current version (6) is newer than the setup program, so it won't re-install. grr!

Are you sure it does not say the version you are trying to install is older than the one installed? If so, please make sure you follow the instructions in the other link i provided to completely uninstall IE 7 before you try to install IE 6.

The address for the Windows Update Web site is: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ (do not type www at the beginning this address).

i followed your directions exactly. ie7 is now uninstalled. i tried re-installing ie6 from the link you gave me, and i get this message: "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on your system. Setup cannot continue."

1) Check what IE version you have... IE>Help>About Internet Explorer.

2) Panda Activescan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)
    Ewido Online Scan (http://www.ewido.net/en/)

What the heck, I suggest you also get CCleaner (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191) and run it.  Might be worth the time.  If you're new to CCleaner, you might benefit from reading this: http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1163474757/0

Have you thought about formatting your hard drive and doing a fresh installation of Windows to resolve this?
