Title: Start>Search doesn't work??

my problem is simple that when i go to start and click on search it just doesn't open?? i am using windows xp professional so please tell me how can i fix it anyhelp would be greatly appreciated

Go to Start / Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
Have your XP CD handy as it will ask for it.
Let it run to completion and then re-boot.

Let us know what happens...

if i do that would this format my computer?? cuz i have lots important stuff in my computer and i dont wanna lose it

SFC will [highlight]not [/highlight]format your hdd or delete any files.  SFC stands for System File Checker and will scan system files, replacing any corrupt files with good copies from your XP cd.

ohoo ok i did SFC thing but still the same problem :-? :-? :( :( :( :( :'( :'( :'(
