Post by: dgiles on November 14, 2006, 01:44:48 PM
My question is can using msconfig make your computer blue screen? What happen is my buddy he has a toshiba laptop not sure the model but he said he click some things off of the msconfig startup menu and then defraged his system. He said when he restarted it the next it would not boot up and had a blue screen. He said he did not install any new software and the only thing he really uses it for is aol instant messanger. If you can help please let me know.

dgiles..... Perhaps if you told us what your buddy took out ........
But to answer your question ....... yup it's possible.
I also think it prudent to tell us why he was playing around in msconfig ?

he took out things like aol instant messanger and other thing he knew. could it be possible that defragment pushed hard too far that it failed? or did he take out something he shouldn't have.... if so how could he fix this?

dgiles....... I wouldnt think defragging would have caused the issue........ I'd be more inclined to think he removed something he shouldn't have.

Will the machine boot in safe mode ?
What operating system is ( was ) installed ?
Does he have the option of using the last known good configuration ?

Do you have a real, shiny, XP CD that says MICROSOFT all over it for that machine?
