Computer Hope

I hope I am posting this in the right place as it may be a software problem as well as hardware.
I am really not sure how to list all of my computer's specs, esp. because I am posting using my laptop. But I'll tell you want I can:
I have a desktop PC that was made by eMachines
Anyways, Both my mouse and my keyboard started to act up at the same time. When I try to open something using my mouse, it acts like I right clicked it and chose properties. When I use my mouse wheel to scroll up and down a page, it zooms in and out.
When I type any letter on my keyboard, it repeats it. If I want to type the word "keyboard" it would look like this "kkeeyybbooaarrdd." That's only half the time though. The other half it just doesn't do anything. My backspace key fails to delete anything ever. Other times it does seemingly random stuff when I hit the letter keys, such as navigating backward through my browser history.
I would just assume that my keyboard or mouse had gone bad and needs to be replaced if it was just one of them acting up, but they both went crazy at the same time, so I don't know what to do.
Please help!
-
I doubt your mouse & keyboard would have both failed at the same time.
Try the following then we can go from there.
Panda Activescan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)
Ewido Online Scan (http://www.ewido.net/en/)
-
How can I get to those sites on my PC when my keyboard won't type anything? I can open my web brower and thatt's it :(?
-
Oh wait! I have an idea... I think I can scan it now... 1 sec
-
Good luck, we'll keep the light on.
(Safe Mode + Networking may be an option if your OS supports it)
-
Alright, I scanned with the second one but couldn't get the first one to work with no keyboard capabilities. It found some stuff, deleted it, and restarted my PC, but the problem is still here.
-
Thanks for that keyboard thing -- it really helps! But, unfortunately, not enough. The online scan is givving my trouble. It keeps sending me to some error screen about java. I have the latest java version, so idk what's going on.
-
The onscreen keyboard doesn't work :(
I am at a loss
-
Have you tried Safe Mode + Networking?
-
Okay, I got it to scan and here are the results:

I reinstalled the drivers twice and both my mouse and keyboard use wires to connect to my PC
I am currently trying to do all of the steps outlined by FED
-
THese scans take forever :( I am just now restarting in safe mode... updates to follow soon
-
Hm. I've just encountered a different problem; how can I start in safemode without a working keyboard? How do I hold F8?
-
A wired keyboard should have no problem IF the PS/2 ports are intact and the motherboard/BIOS are functional. USB and wireless things can have issues, but you said you were wired?
-
Yeah, The regular wires with the circular plugs and the pins and whatnot. THe motherboard has been recently (4 months ago) replaced and the pins and stuff are not bent and are all there.
-
You wouldn't be the first person to have the mouse & keyboard plugs in the wrong holes.
So what happens when you try to get to the safe mode menu?
-
I don't know how to get to safe mode when my keyboard doesn't work. How do I do it?
-
If the keyboard and mouse won't even work on startup, it seems that the problem would be hardware related and not software related right? Wired keyboards and mouses don't even need drivers do they?
Just guessing,

-
That's a good point/guess. If I knew more about computers I might be able to call it a "great" guess. Or a "horrible" guess. I guess.
The only thing about that is BOTH my mouse AND keyboard went bad at the SAME TIME, so it makes me think it is some virus or something.
-

Did you check this, does anyone else have access to your computer plugs?
Boot the computer and start tapping the F8 key.

-
I'm in the process of another online scan right now (it will take all night), but I checked the plugs (again) and they are indeed in the right places. I'll have to go to that site you just linked and trying it out tomorrow.
-
What realtime protection are you running on your computer, antivirus, antispyware, firewall?
-
Let's see... I have Trend Micro's PC-cillin Internet Security 2006. It includes realtime anti-virus and anti-spyware. I also have a firewall up.

Well, with no keyboard, I wouldn'tr be able to navigate to safemode or even press enter to select it anyway.
-
Have you tried to get into safe mode?
Have you tried a different PS2 keyboard?
-
I have tried getting into safe mode but without a working keyboard, I couldn't. I have not yet tried with a different keyboard. Hopefully tomorrow.
-
Alright. The computer has failed completely. I got a friend who actually knows about computers to come help me, but as luck would have it, as soon as he got here the computer wouldn't even turn on. He recommends a new machine. Any thoughts?
-
I've called up a professionsal computer repair guy and he says it might be a faulty power supply and that I should look into replacing it.
-
I guess the bottom line is what's in your computer now?
Do you have any rough details, motherboard, cpu, hdd, video etc?
How old is it?
What happens when you push the 'on' button?
What happened when you tried to get into safe mode?
Unplug the computer from the wall socket for 10 seconds, plug it back in & try & start it.
