I keep getting asked to run chkdsk on every startup of the computer. How do i disable this?
-
Let it finish all the way through and you won't be prompted the next time...
-
I'll assume that your operating system is XP.....and that drive C: is being checked.....and that your file system is NTFS.
At the command prompt type chkntfs /x c: then push Enter
At the command prompt type chkntfs/? to list all parameters.
Good luck
-
Is this correct?
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>chkntfs /x c:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>chkntfs/?
Displays or modifies the checking of disk at boot time.
CHKNTFS volume [...]
CHKNTFS /D
CHKNTFS /T[:time]
CHKNTFS /X volume [...]
CHKNTFS /C volume [...]
volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
mount point, or volume name.
/D Restores the machine to the default behavior; all drives are
checked at boot time and chkdsk is run on those that are
dirty.
/T:time Changes the AUTOCHK initiation countdown time to the
specified amount of time in seconds. If time is not
specified, displays the current setting.
/X Excludes a drive from the default boot-time check. Excluded
drives are not accumulated between command invocations.
/C Schedules a drive to be checked at boot time; chkdsk will run
if the drive is dirty.
If no switches are specified, CHKNTFS will display if the specified drive is
dirty or scheduled to be checked on next reboot.

Looks like it could be fine, but do you still run chkdsk at boot time
-
Yep it works, thanks!
-
Thanks for coming back to us to confirm the outcome..

Weird, now its scheduled again.........and i just went into command prompt to cancel it but diskeeper insists that i still have a scheduled check. What gives?
-
You failed to mention you were running DisKeeper...in the left hand pane look under set it and forget it for scheduling options...
-
There are no scheduling options in the left hand panel......

What version are you running ? ?

Pro Premier
-
I see. According to their site there is a run on boot option....check in options or tools to turn it off.
-
I see the option now, but its greyed out and nothing i do seems to let me uncheck it.......
-
Don't know what to suggest other than un-installing DisKeeper and re-installing it...
Have you ran chkdsk on that HDD recently ?
-
Have you looked at msconfig/startup to see if it is there? If so, uncheck it. If it still starts at boot up, look in the startup folder and remove the shortcut to it. You might also check the task scheduler and see if it is there.
-
I cant run chkdsk, thats why i want it to stop running it on startup. You posted in my other thread about it remember?
Its not in the startup folder, and i dont know how to check msconfig for chkdsk and turn it off.
It seems to be diskeeper's fault. Re-installing it doesnt work. The option is greyed out and i cant figure out how to let me change it. And Diskeeper doesnt provide ANY form of support for trial versions.
