Title: yahoo messenger problems

for some reason each time i try to sign into yahoo messenger i get a window that reads this program has made an illegal operation and will be shut down
 but if i try long enough it will eventually let me in are there steps i can take to prevent this from happening

well im not sure what information you need but ill try.
 i have not changed anything and there are no new users.
 it is a dell computer tower and a compaq monitor
windows 98 se and trying to use yahoo version 8.0
