Title: Just wanted to say Thanks...
Post by: Vampyrinia on December 27, 2006, 08:46:44 AM
Hi I'm new here but I have been lurking and learning all about how to boost my pc and how to FIX my Mother's pc.

She has an AMD Athalon (sp?) it is 6 years old and she refuses to trash it and buy a newer one for less than she paid for that one. She has a new motherboard and a new HD
She was having problems with her old CRT and she trashed it and bought a new LCD. She followed the instructions but it only gave her "No Signal" and she got me to look at it but first I did some research online and found your wonderful forum.  I discovered that it was her graphics card and took it out and cleaned the gunk off of it with an alcohol prep and securely attached it back again.
She called me to let me know it is working great and I Thank you for being so helpful to others which in turn helped me.

I have also boosted my pc by using your great tips and I love CCleaner!
Thanks Yall!

I do have a question...
I ran the hijack program and it came up with alot of Symantec entries and I don't have any other Virus protection but AVG Free.
I had Norton in the past but I uninstalled it cause it was alot of trouble.
I want to delete them but I'm unsure if this will be safe or not.

My Specs if needed:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP Home
Version 2002 Service Pack 2
IE 7
Dell Dimension XPS_GEN_5
Intell Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz
3.20GHZ 1.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800
NTFS 123 GB Used
25.0 GB Free
Capacity 148 GB
Sony DVD RW DRU-810A (I installed this myself)
TSSTcorp DVD ROM

It would be better if you made a new thread for this.
Also, attach the Hijackthis log file to the post so we can see what you mean, otherwise we don't know fi they're safe to delete or not.
Thanks.
Calum.

That's why I said she should attach it so someone who knows what they're looking at can take a look.
Hijackthis is very powerful, but can be very dangerous too.

I won't I promise...
I can't post what  the Hijack log gave me due to I am on my work pc.

Is there any information that should not be shown to yall on the log? Anything that would be considered hackable?

No, the best idea is to post it all.
Anything you leave out may be useful info.
None of it would give you away to "hackers".
Besides, we don't have any people like that here.
