I have an old Compaq Presario 5220 that had a locked display property of large icons and limited colors.
After trying different things in safe mode I decided to do a clean install from the disc, but first formatted and then created the first partition. The extended partition was not allowed.
Formatting must have removed the cd driver because Windows 98 wouldn't reload on a cold boot. I tried the emergency floppy and still no go. All unoriginal hardware has been disconnected (burner and a parallel port) as per the first time I had the problem but was able to get a full restore via the cd.
Any suggestions?

If you have the original restore disk........
Turn computer on use F1 to go to BIOS setup.
Change boot order for CD-ROM first.
After that boot with restore disk in CD-ROM. :-?

Or travel to bootdisk.com and grab a bootdisk and create a floppy....boot with the floppy and run setup again from the CD.
The one you want is WinSE with CDRom support.
The other issue sounds like the video drivers were not installed and or corrupt...
patio. 8-)

Thanks much, I'll try both suggestions.
