Title: Domai Set up
Post by: almn on January 10, 2007, 02:08:51 PM
Hello,

I would like to know how to set up a windows domain. So basicly it would allow the users to log in to any computer and would also make administration easier There are 10 computers , all of them running windows XP Pro.

Thanks

First of all you need a server preferably Windows 2000 server edition or Windows 2003 server edition then you can use domains. For me a Workgroup is satisfying enough.

A Linux server running Samba and LDAP is a much cheaper (albeit less featureful) way of administering a domain for Windows XP computers.

What's your budget?

"What's your budget? "
Lets just say I'd prefer cheap but I need something good.
Would Samba and LDAP allow all the users to log in their account on any manchine and have their latest modification of the account made when they log in an other computer ?

Thanks

It depends on which modifications you wish to be replicated.  Samba can certainly support roaming profiles.
