By Keyboard mouse I'm assuming you mean the mouse built into a laptop?
-
Try Going into Control Panel switching it to Classic Mode, Double click on mouse, and then on hardware. Then go into the properties of your built in mouse and look on the bottom of the window where it says Device Usage.
-
When I go into control Panel and click mouse, there are 3 tabs, Buttons, Pointers, and Pointer Options. None of them have anything to click on labeled hardware. And I do not know what you mean by "switching to classic mode." There is nothing anywhere in Control Panel that I can find with these words.

The reason I need to do this is, I just bought a digital camera (over $100) and took a few pics. To get them onto the computer, I had to remove the handheld mouse from the USB port so I could plug in the camera. After doing this, the pictures can be viewed by clicking on the Removable Disk icon in My Computere--which I CAN click on using arrows and the enter key--but saved only by **clicking** Edit (at the top of the screen), choosing Select All, and then Save. I have no way of getting up to Edit without a mouse plugged in. But I can't plug in the mouse because the camera has to be plugged in. My brand new camera is useless unless I can turn the keyboard mouse back on. Thanks much to anyone who tries to help!

I have a Dell Latitude laptop. Windows ME operating system.
-
Try the Tab key on the keyboard to move around.
Or borrow a PS2 mouse.
-
The tab only allows me to move between the pictures. It does not take me up to the File/Edit/View/etc. line.
Can anyone tell me how to activate the mousepad on my keyboard? I remember turning it off a long time ago, but I can't remember how to get it back on. I have looked under Mouse in Control Panel; there is nothing dealing with the keyboard mouse.
This has to be an easy fix; someone's got to know! Help!
-
Shift Tab might get you to the file menu...or it may be Ctrl Tab...
Or borrow a PS2 mouse.
-
Press Alt and use the arrow keys to choose between menus, then enter and the arrow keys to navigate inside menus.
-
There are also (shudder) USB to PS2 adapters...
-
I didn't know what a PS2 adapter was, but I had this little green thing that came with my mouse, and a few seconds on google later I learned it was a PS2 adapter. I actually tried it before, but nothing happened. So how can I get that to work?
-
OK, now in manual that came with my mouse, it says, "PC desktops use green PS2 adapter. PC notebooks use black USB connector only." Does that mean there's no way I can use the PS2 with my notebook?
-
With this mouse, correct. A PS2 mouse won't work well with laptops. However, the good news is that USB mice can be as cheap as $10 at a computer store.
-
Dilbert, either you or I (probably I) is really misunderstanding something. I have a USB mouse that works perfectly. Problem is, I have to take it out of the USB port to plug in my digicam so I can load the pics onto my computer. But then I can't move the arrow over to Edit, Select All, Save so the pics will be saved. But if I re-plug in the mouse and take out the digicam, the pics disappear.
The best solution would be to turn back on the mousepad on the keyboard, which turned off when I got my handheld mouse. But I don't know how to do that, and I don't even remember how I turned it off.
So, a stupid way to put this, what do the other zillion people who have digital cameras do? Obviously I'm missing something here.
-
Oh, my apologies! I misunderstood that one. Thanks for the clarification. :)
OK, most of us use multiple USB ports -- one for the camera, one for the mouse. That makes this whole problem ridiculously easy to solve. Complications arise when only one USB port is available. The best solution is to buy a USB hub. Much as I despise using Wikipedia, good information on it can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hub
A USB hub that allows 4 devices at a time can be had for $20.00 USD. Of course, more is more expensive, less is less so. Yes, it costs, but it alleviates the headache of worrying about PS2 adapters, getting all that crud to work with a new(ish) laptop, and the inherent inefficiency involved with a PS2 connection.
Alternatively, you could find and borrow a computer with multiple USB ports -- and if you have more than one, that solves it ever more easily.
Again, sorry about the confusion.
-
If you choose to get a USB hub, I strongly reccomend that you get one that is externally powered. Avoid future problems with the USB port providing insufficient power.

I can't believe this has gotten this complicated...a USB to PS2 adapter is what it is no matter what color it is...
-
OK, Dilbert, I will look into getting one of those. There's a CompUSA nearby.
-
""PC desktops use green PS2 adapter""
The one you have should work fine. The color is just to match the port. It is like Dos for Dummies. This is Color Coded for Dummies.
-
And when you get all of those add-on gadgets, suddenly your laptop is not so portable anymore. ;)
