Title: Must I Re-Activate WinXP After HD Transfer To MB?
Post by: corndale on March 06, 2007, 12:42:06 PM
I have a legitimately activated copy of WinXP Home running on a 80G IDE HD on a P-III motherboard with 1.2G CPU & 512mb.  I plan to transfer my HD, PCI Video Card, PCI Sound Card, and Power Supply to a P-4 motherboard with 2.2G CPU, 768mb and a new DVD burner.  The P-4 will replace the P-III on my cable internet connection.  Can anyone share their experiences as to how this can be done without voiding the current WinXP activation.  In otherwords, because of the new motherboard, CPU and memory, will I have to (or will I be able to) re-activate WinXP, and can the re-activation be accomplished over the internet or by telephone?

If the install is legit you should have no problem re-activating with the Mothership...

However there happens to be another method.

Not for the faint of heart... (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/77909774/m/1400925745/p/1)
