Title: optical mouse & serial port

on my old computer i use a ps2 mouse with e convertor jack that allows the ps2 mouse toi connect via a serial port
i have now bought an optical mouse but it wont work through the same convertor jack

Better to use the PS2 port.

the computer does not have a ps2 port that s why i'm using the ps2 to serial convertor.

Have you attempted to install the drivers that may have come with the mouse?

Hate to tell you...but...if it has no PS2 port...the computer is not even a Pentium 1.  The mouse you just bought is worth more than the computer.

Supply more info on computer (make, model) and what version of DOS and/or Windows you are using.

computer - pentium 1
cpu -  mmx 166mhz
64 meg ram

yes i installed the drivers that came with the mouse
i get the red light at the base of the mouse to light up but thats as far as get to making it work.

Are you certain you have no PS/2 port? It may be black rather than the colour of your mouse's plug.

It should be the port directly above the keyboard port.  If it's a tower, it's to the side.
