Title: can a Dell computer be hooked up to an HP monitor
Post by: mamabus512knows on April 14, 2007, 05:15:08 AM
Was given a Dell computer and would like to hook up a flat screen HP monitor to it. Can this be done? I've never intertwined 2 different computers before.
[email protected] Thanks

not 100% sure here but;  a lot of HP  is proprietary hardware but-
It should work ...i think... hook it up and try it... if it doesn't it won't hurt anything

It all depends on what the video hardware has for its Video Out plug and what kind of plug attachment the monitor uses.

Generally, monitors would plug into VGA/D sub port plugs.. These are usually blue and shaped sort of like a trapezoid.

Now, some monitors are DVI-I port, mostly for high-definition picture. They are rectangle and tan in color most of the time.

Plug it in and see. If the plug fits, it will work. There is nothing proprietary about video output, apart from DVI vs VGA.

Yes it can. Much hardware is built according to global standards. But ofcourse, you can not fit a VGA monitor to a DVI connection no matter what brand it is made of. (Unless you use a converter..)
