I've already tried going to hardware profiles and what not, unfortunatly "DMA mode if available" is not an option on one of the controllers. This is most irritating when i try to install games or watch a dvd because it slows my computer down to a crawl. I will prolly need basic stats on my computer for the help..... how do i go about doing this?

How did you manage to do this? Did you mess around in the BIOS?
-
What flavor of Windows are you running ? ?
The procedures may differ a bit so post as much info on your machine as possible...

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Pentium Dual Core Duo, 3.2gig
I don't think how much ram i have or what kind of video card has to do with this problem. Anything else you need to know?

This sounds like an obvious place to start then. You should never mess with something you don't understand. Why don't you run Everest Home and download the report here. That could be important also as well as what else happened before this. Surely it has not always been this way.

If you changed BIOS setings, you should load the default settings or put it back to what it was.

I would have attached my specs but the text file is 180kb and these forums have a 128kb size limit. And also rar. is an invalid file type for some reason.
