Title: Hard drive retrival

Is there anyway to retrieve information from a harddrive that boots up but nothing else?  I think my computer experienced a power surge.  Its lights up, I hear the fan, but I see nothing. I have valuable information that I desperately need. Help!!!!   ??? :'(

remove it and hook it up to another pc as slave..drive..
