I can't get to www.jjay.cuny.edu my schools web page from my laptop, here at school or from home. Doesn't matter what ISP I use. I talked to the IT guy at school and he said it's my problem I tried everything( I think). Virus scan (turned up nothing), cleaned out cache, turned off fire wall, ran in safe mode, did windows update, reset to default settings, I think I tried everything. This started two weeks ago, I've added no hardware/software in months. I have cable and wireless for internet. I'm on Windows 2000 Pro. This is the only web site I can't get to. I reach www.lib.jjay.cuny.edu just fine. I keep getting can't find server message. I tried firefox and no luck. Any help would be great. I also turned off the pop up blocker (I think).
Thanks again,
Rob

Its working ok from this end. Try it with a different browser

I tried firefox/mozilla....nothing just get the timed out message. Also, no yellow triangles regarding Java script issues.

Did you install SP2?
You may need to disable the built-in Firewall then. Or reconfigure it.
-
Doesn't SP2 pertain to Windows XP? I have 2000 Pro. How do I get to the Internal Fire Wall thing....?
-
try the ping command in the cmd prompt or add this site to the trusted zone site
-
Try the IP directly. It could be a DNS problem. http:// 209.2.54.45 I noticed that it is not pingable and does not respond to trace. However, I could reach the site with java script and cookies disabled.
-
http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/
works perfectly for me with javascript and cookies enabled.
-
Works for me as well. Using Firefox and using a personalized hosts.dat...
You may need to reformat and reinstall Windows if you require to access the web page frequently?
-

-
put in the ping www.jjay.cuny.edu and got 4 "timed out" messages (Packets sent: 4 Returned: 0 Lost: 4
any other ideas? :(
-
what connection are you using?maybe the site in question takes a while to load and your modem settings need adjusting..like the mtu or ttl..>http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp
-
I'm using a cable connect the computers in the lower right corner say Speed: 100.0 Mbps, Local Area connection. I'll look into the timing thing.
-
100mps is your nic card....try these tools for a speed test etc>http://www.dslreports.com/tools
-
Access the library page. At the upper left is the school logo. Click on it and see if you can acess the main page from there.
-
The speed issue is ok, I ran a test and I CAN NOT be pinged. Reminde:, 2 weeks ago I could get on fine, for the past 2 years. I turned on the "allow to be pinged" in Macfee, still no luck.
Rob
Thanks for all the help so far.
-
I can't get on through the library's web site either.
-
I have to believe the problem lies with McAfee. Check the settings carefully. It is blocking the site.
-
I uninstalled McFee and IE and still no luck..

merlin_2,
Thanks for all the help, but it doesn't matter if I'm using the wireless or cable to connect to the internet. I'm having the same problem with my PC @ home. That's a totaly different set-up. So maybe somekind-a virus or a prob with McFee. I think I'm going to try and re-install windows. I reconfiged the lan settings and nothing. When I goto the config screen i type in ping www.jjay.cuny.edu and get timed out errors. And I can't trace it either.

...When I goto the config screen i type in ping www.jjay.cuny.edu and get timed out errors. ...
ICMP traffic is being blocked by them to lessen the chance of hacker attack. ping and tracert will not work.

I fixed it!!!!!!!! With some help of course. Here at school we have a cyber crime program, so I asked a friend of mine who takes these classes and took his advice. He said that the schools website only allows certain (my words not his) certain gateway/sub-mask #'s to access the site. So I went to Linksys' web site and figured out how to change my #. Some Gateway/Router thing. All set now... So Thanks to all for the help.
Cheers,
Rob
