Title: Problem opening Photo Suite! Please Help!
Post by: Ros on May 02, 2007, 07:45:25 PM
I have been using Photo Suite 4.0 on my pc (OS Windows ME) for several years and this has recently started happening:  I can't open the program. When I click on the icon from my desktop, instead of opening the program, the 'Internet Options' dialogue box opens. Same thing happens when I try to open the program from START>Run.... and also when I try to open from the program folder. 'Internet Options' box opens every time!  I've uninstalled/reinstalled Photo Suite but still the same problem.  This is only happening with this one particular program.   I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum category.
Thanks in advance!

Here's a suggestion you can try...
Uninstall PhotoSuite again.  But this time, use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) (without Yahoo! toolbar) to clean out your temp files and rogue registry keys (with the Issues feature) before reinstalling it.  The incorrect settings may be stored in the registry.

Does this make any difference?

I am aware that there are many members of the Computer Hope family that promote the use of "CCleaner". While i am certainly not an expert on that program i want to extend a cautionary word or two. I recently had a computer problem that a member was urging the use of that program (it was not possible to use it to deal with that computer at that time due to the nature of the problem on the computer). However seeing as so many references to the good things that it could supposedly do for one's computer i decided to download the latest version and try it out on this computer (not the same one as had the problems). Now it has been my experience over a long time of computer use that quite often a "new" problem can be directly related to somethin "new ' you just did. i mention the following:since installing (now uninstalled) i have losts many functions i previously liked and would have kept (won't list them all) but as an example since installing that software (and subsequent to it's removal) i cannot access "Limewire" version 4.10 anymore. It starts to load then self cancels before completion. Now i know some will say "it is being caused by something else" and that is indeed possible too. However as loading running and uninstalling CCLeaner is all that i had done"new" i am very suspicious that there is a connection. truenorth

CrapCleaner removes specific junk files. However, simply pressing the 'remove' button will not do. If you do not inspect the list before deleting, you're bound to run into trouble especially when you run it for the first time..

Besides that, it doesn't destroy programs or settings as these are stored in files that Crap Cleaner doesn't detect simply because they're not junk. Unless they're stored in a bizarre way.

CCleaner is a fairly powerful tool and it can be misused, but it generally won't delete anything of importance.  It's always a good idea to review whatever you're deleting.  But I've never experienced any problems with it.  You should be in good hands with this program.

truenorth,
I can't say what disabled your Limewire, nor can I say that it wasn't CCleaner.  However, CCleaner only deals with specific folders and files, so maybe Limewire was somehow installed in a temp folder.  I really don't know.  I don't use Limewire anymore, but it's on my computer (4.12) and it works just fine and I do numerous CCleaner scans each week.

I also use ccleaner and it is indeed a powerful tool I installed it on 6 computers and had no problems with that program at all but you have to check wat you are going to delete before just clicking the button.
Although there are no connections in Ccleaner to Limewire.
I used limewire myself and I had never had any problem with that program.
But Limewire that is the problem I've used it for 2monds and suddenly I had about 5 critical objects.(eatch week)
Normally I have 1 or 2 threats every month.

Appreciate your comments folks.I certainly was not in a position to say, without reservation, that CCleaner was the absolute cause of my Limewire dilema however the coincidence was too apparent to ignore so i thought i would issue the cautionary note.Just for what it's worth (maybe not much) i only used the CCleaner the once immediately after the download and install. It did whatever it does awful fast and to the best of my recollection i did not get any option after the "run or search" or whatever it was where i was offered to delete or not anything specific. It started and was done practically before i could blink. As i stated earlier i am not an expert on that program and maybe there were parameters of search that i should have selected and didn't. Anyway just trying to be helpful to others. truenorth

Before using Run The Cleaner, you want to click on the Analyze button to review the files that are going to be deleted.

truenorth i believe your issue may have been caused by Limewire and not CCleaner.

CBMatt&patio, thanks for the comments. The additional info re how to use CCleaner ("Analyze button") prompts me to give it another chance. So with my sloooow 56k modem i shall again download the program and try it on this computer (the one that coincidentally had the Limewire problem) again as it has gotten so slow recently at boot and also during web browsing.Any program (like AVG also) that is so often recommended and obviously used must have something going for it.truenorth
