ARE THE WINDOWS AUTOMATIC UPDATES ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY ?
DO THEY HAVE TO BE DOWNLOADED TO KEEP EVERYTHING RUNNING SMOOTHLY.
I HAVE A COMPAQ 7550 COMPUTER & RUNNING WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION.
I AM ALWAYS BEING TOLD THERE ARE UPDATES TO INSTALL.
THANKS IN ADVANCE WENDYD. :-\

Welcome To Computer Hope, I'd say you don't need to use Automatic Updates but check every once in a while for new updates. AS long as you have proper Anti-Virus software and update your computer maybe once a week, but I think Microsoft is slowing down with XP so there will be less updates and you might not have to do it to frequently.

No, you can replace each Windows update with a well placed Caps Lock hit.
Or you can just keep the Caps Lock button turned on at all times to make sure proper grammar doesn't hit you when you least expect it. (I.E: In a Windows Update)
