Title: Replacing motherboard
Post by: deb6275 on May 03, 2007, 06:23:42 AM
I have a DELL Latitude C600.  The connector for the battery charger went bad, so I took it to be replaced.  Well, the guy REALLY did a horrible job.  Instead of replacing it, he tried to rig it.  Now, I've been told the only way to fix it is to get a new motherboard.  I have worked on computers before and even built my own, but it was a desktop and not a laptop.  My question is... is it hard to get into  the laptops? And can I transfer things from the old motherboard to the new one like you can in desktop computers?
Thanks... Debbie

Debbie,  It is a nightmare , SORRY BAD NEWS,  GX-1 Man is awesome on the laptops *  I do believe most mfg's  solder (weld) the mobo's into the case...
I would keep watching your/ this  post for additional and more info but I feel that attempting yourself would put you in a world of trouble/ headache !

If the guy did a horrible job, bring it back and demand that you speak to his supervisor?

Opening a laptop isn't very difficult, getting it closed again and putting everything back in the right place is the tricky part..

Ditto Raptor, but don't expect any satisfaction even from a supervisor.  I had a friend in Portland that went thru the same issues you did.  Brought her laptop in for a power connection repair, they goofed it up, she took it back in, played their game and ended up getting another laptop and being totally pissed off at that company.

I do wish you good luck and a better experience than she had.  ;)

I'd contact the Better Business Bureau in your town...also if you have any lawyer friends (free ) they're good at writing letters that get results.

Sorry about your situation...i hate stories like this one.
