What operating system are you using?

For recording voice, you might try using Audacity, a free audio recorder
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Have you selected a input under Tools>Options in the Sound Recorder?

Lol...

Try going to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Volume Control.
Make sure the microphone is unticked and high.
Then click options - properties and then check the Recording box/circle and make sure the Microphone is Ticked
