Title: My Mouse
Post by: Haoleboy on May 26, 2007, 05:26:07 PM
I'm running an old HP with windows ME.

I used the comp. in the morning before work, turned it off, went to work. Got home from work went to go turn it on again and the display was set to the smallest area and only 16 colors plus the mouse wouldn't work. I reloaded the drivers for my monitor and graphics card and the display went back to normal but I can't seem to get the mouse to work again. I've tried a different mouse but still nothing. It's a PS/2 mouse. I've reloaded the drivers many times but still nothing. I don't think the port can go out just like that so what's going on?

There is the possibility that the port can be bad.

Does you HP have diagnostic software installed...if not, try their site.

Or...simply try a USB mouse.

Windows ME has a system restore, so you could try that. The more likely cause is a bad PS/w mouse port. It happens. I got in a machine like that just yesterday. A USB mouse does solve the problem.  ;)
