I have a really old system which my DH rescued from his work. It's currently running Win NT (don't know version as I don't have the password), but I want to change it to Windows 98SE. I have the discs, but when I put them in and reboot I get a BIOS error saying the disc contents are incompatible with the BIOS. I thought I'd try formatting the C drive to see if that would help, but every time I try the "format"command in DOS it complains it can't read drive G.
The PC is an old vectra VL which says it's designed for Win 95 so I don't even know if it will run 98, but I'm hoping someone here will know.
Thankyou

DH has just told me the BIOS is set up to run as a terminal rather than a stand-alone pc, don't know if that makes any difference.

yes it does...you need open the BIOS and load the default hardware settings...for a start.
That should help you boot off your CD.

Spend some time digesting that material before you attempt any changes. After you read it, if you feel you would like to discuss any of it, or need more clarification, please do post your questions here.
