Title: Vista display glitch
Post by: aslater on May 31, 2007, 09:45:50 AM
Brand new Toshiba Satellite laptop, running on Vista.  Everything is fine until a minute into the "session" when a 2 inch white line appears at the very top.  Annoying.  Basically, some program is causing it, since it's not there when it starts.  I uninstalled MacAfee (will install another) and Google bar, because they came up later, made no difference.  How do I see the order that they load up so I can eliminate (possibly) the one loading up the glitch?  I already tried reinstalling the display driver, too.

Toshiba and Microsoft are no help, bouncing me between them - Microsoft wants to charge me for support of a brand new product!  >:(

It's brand new.  It started the first day I turn it on.

I changed the wallpaper w/ my own picture.  However, my picture comes out ok, when the "background" programs finish loading up is when it starts.

no. but when I put the default it's still there.  In Vista, there's a feature that shows the F keys on top, that's what is causing it, I think, since I can see the  "tabs" slightly.  My question is, how do I turn off some features that on the start up menu? That particular feature?

If it's brand new, send it back to Toshiba.
They will give you a replacement if you insist.

Again, Toshiba says since the hardware is working fine, etc.  Besides, I'm going away and need the computer and by the time I come back the "cool off" period will be done.  I guess I have to ask Microsoft how to do it - and be told that it's a long elaborate process.  Well, thanks for the input.  If they tell me how to do it, I'll post it here.

I doubt Toshiba could determine this over the phone...unless they are the best tech's in the World.

Warranty is the way to go. Although it would be nice to have the brand new laptop for your trip it obviously has problems...if you let it go til after the trip what if they say it was damaged in transit ? ? Then you're outta luck.

Something to consider at least...

Not a warranty issue.  I figured out that the program that loads up causing the white line is a Toshiba program called flash cards - so not a Vista or hardware problem.  The issue is that it doesn't disappear completely when it's supposed to, the white line (the very bottom of a "tab") stays on and will eventually burn the display on that spot.  I'll try to uninstall the program if I can.  If I can't, I'll call Toshiba and ask them how to do it - at least I hope so!  Thanks for your input, I'm always willing to try to solve glitches by myself - with help from my friends  ;D
