i know i have some restrictions.
What restrictions?
Is this a new problem? I.e. have your computer detected the flash drive in the past?

Since I don't know what kind of user restrictions we're talking about here I can't say if this is the cause, but you could try and talk to whoever set those restrictions.

How long has this been going on? If you've used this flash drive before did you just take it out or did you actually close the connection before removing it? I had a flashdrive a few years ago and I didn't realize you had to close the connection before taking it out and it eventually stopped working.

Will the flash drive work on other computers?

Seems like this must be resolved before anything else.

If restrictions are not the issue, then .... does that flash drive require USB 2.0?  Does your computer have USB 2.0, not just USB 1.1?  If you have USB 2.0, you should see this reflected in Device Manager, under "Universal serial bus controllers"; you should see one or more items labeled "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller" or something to that effect. The word "Enhanced" is the key here.

Well, just looking in Device Manager wouldn't change anything; merely opening Device Manager would not resolve the problem.  If it's really been resolved, you've done something more than look in Device Manager.

ok. i went to the device manager, went down to usb controllers, started looking at the usb properties and found out that they were all disabled. so i just enabled them.

yap, soybean is absolutely right, that restriction isn't the problem... you plugged your USB on a low speed usb ports, commonly are installed in from of the cpu... now try to plug it on a usb (2.0) port at the back of your cpu...its a matter of trial and error only... am sure it will work...enabling the usb ports in the device manager has nothing to do with the malfunctioning or non-recogition of your flash drive by your pc...hope it works...

eveneng143433 why are you posting suggestions in this thread? The issue has already been solved.
So, does your flash drive work on that computer now?
it sure does
And btw. if the USB ports are disabled in the Device manager it has a lot to do with the computer not recognizing USB devices.
