i recently brought a case for a 300gb ide hd which has previously been in my pc. i took the hd out of my comp and put it into a case to try and make it an external one and portable. now everytime i plug the hd in throughy usb it does not get automaticly regognised. i have to go to computer managment where it says disk 1 is dynamic and offline. once i reactivate the disk it then becomes visible in my computer and works as per normal. is there anyway i can lock it on or something and not have to go through that every time?

Could you give more info about your computer? CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Operating System, Installed Programs, etc.
Also what kind of drive it is and the ext. enclosure.

i'm not sure about all the stats on my computer. i will try and find all the info though. is there some way i can find out about CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Operating System, Installed Programs, etc. that are on my computer. i don't know where to look to find that info. sorry.
the hd is a samsung ide 400 gb and the case is one that i brought which allows me to use it as a normal external hd and can be plugged into a tv or monitor and be a stand alone media player.
i have added a link to the hd case.
thanks for the help.

what brand and model is your computer? Dell, HP, eMachines? how old is it?
Is it running windows xp or vista?
did the drive work correctly in the past? when did it stop working right?
brand and model of the ext. drive would be helpful also.
thanks.

DLoad and run Everest Home...it will tell you more than you need to know about your machine...

I have the very same problem and it was a pain to troubleshoot it. I never got it working right. It seems that I have unplug the USB connector and plug it back in EVERY time I want to use the drive if it has been powered down between times.
