Hi, I just bought an Acer T180 and I want to add my other harddrive in it that has all my programs that I use on it.
My problem is, they hook up differently. This puter don't use a strap, it only has one thing going to it that looks like a power line but I can't see how to install the second hd
Any ideas how I can install the second hd???
Thanks so much, CD

Does the new hard drive cable look like this? (http://sierra-cables.com/SATA/Images/SATA-Signal-Cable-1.jpg)
If so, this is a SATA cable. I'm guessing the old hard drive is on an IDE channel?
Depending on how many optical drives you new rig has, you should be able to just put the old hard drive into one of the IDE channels, just change the jumpers to slave.

Hi GX44, Yep, that's how it looks..........your so smart :)
I know how to change the jumpers to make it the slave drive but I don't know what the Optical drives or IDE channels are ???
Thanks, CD

The optical drives are more than likely hooked up with this (http://www.gshop.com.au/images/ide_133_cable.jpg) cable...
It can also look like this. (http://www.endpcnoise.com/e/images/rounded_IDE_black_24.jpg)
Either way, all you need to do is plug the old HD into a spare connection on the cable, if it has one... If not you can buy them pretty easily.

The only other strap I see is the one going to the dvd player, can I hook into that one?
I don't see anything like the second picture.
Thanks, CD

If the cable has a spare channel with the connection looking like this (http://www.vgmusic.com/faq/gallery/plugs/p-IDE.jpg) then yeah, you can hook it up to that. The connection will probably be about half way along the cable... But as long as there is an open one there just connect it to that.
P.S. Remember and connect a power cable to it as well, I've forgotten to do that a couple of times, haha.

It does, thank you very much, I'm gonna try it now LOL
