Title: Vista to XP( Partition)
Post by: Mike89 on August 08, 2007, 11:45:12 AM
I just got a bran new computer with Vista already booted up once you turn it on. My computer Is a Velocity Micro with a new Flatron Wide LG screen. I I had a few games installed but all of them have this color sway. The only game that did not was supreme commander.

The List of games with the problem:

Armed Assault
Bf1942
Medieval II Total war
Il2 1946 ( Pretty much the worst one)
BF2 (I think works but I didn't get  in to it much)

Here is the problem when I look at the sun or move really fast around it looks like a bright rainbow color fallows behind it. Its pretty small but annoying. When I change the resolution its kind of better but then again other parts move around still.  I think its vista thats doing this. Then again it could be the screen. Why would it be the screen though?

So could somebody tell me how I can partition so that I can switch over from vista to xp when ever I want too. Nearly all the partition programs only run on XP I have seen non that use vista to create a partitioning drive.

Intel Core 2 duo
Well there are much Intel Core 2 duo processors. But that doesn't matter.
Nice computer you have there!
Did you try the games after updating?
Did it help??
What about running the game in compatibility mode?

Thanks, The Intel is a E6700 if that helps  ;)

I did run the games right after the driver install.. Maybe I installed it wrong or something because i don't have Nview any more like my old computer.

I could take some screen shots of what I mean.

Wierd ???

I just took a lot of screen shot of the problem in IL2. The other problem is when I went to look at the screen shots, They looked perfectly normal. There was no color sway behind the plane or anything. I think it has to do with a problem with motion graphics and not still ones.I don't know how to explain it. The sun has a rainbow glow around its rings when you look at the side of it, The planes have a yellow glow around them when they come past me. I really think its a vista problem or something because I don't have this problem with 3dMark. Is there any other solution. This happens  in other games to.

Well if you take a screenshot witch looks fine afterwards then I think it is the monitor.
Do you have an other monitor around to try?

I don't think its my monitor because Armed Assault claims it supports Wide Screen. So could you tell me how to partition so I can go back to XP and switch to vista when ever more DX10 games come out.

It is the Vista *

You need an experienced member like Patio who can explain how to dual boot your puter between vista & Xp  .......... Supreme Commander was designed with the upgraded vista specs and thats why its the only game which works decently with Vista......

Please give him the link of this topic in stead of explaining.
(That would be much easier for both)

This guide looks pretty useful to me.
http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-vista-xp-vista-already-1946.html
It explains how to do a dual boot, with Vista already installed.
Read the entire guide before starting and make sure you understand every step.
The usual route is to install the newer OS afterwards, it's a lot easier that way.

Thats a really good tutorial, Thanks a lot :)

Problem is that my XP wont boot up when I restart my computer for some odd reason. I tried on my other but also it doesn't boot up, but when I go to setup it allows me to install it. On Vista it doesn't let me install it. So my problem right now is installing Xp, Is there any way around this?

Is your BIOS set to boot from CD/DVD-ROM?

NOTE:
You MUST create a partition BEFORE installing XP!
Otherwise you will have lots of problems.

Well I need the make and model of your computer in order to tell you how to enter the BIOS.
But mostly you will have to pres the esc or an F key in the bigging of the boot (when the BIOS loads)

Well when ever I restart my computer It shows 2 buttons I can press. Del. key to go in to Setup and Tab to look at BIOS message ( This is actually shuts donw and just shows information really quick.

I dont know if the Setup is actually my BIOS thoug? In the Screen it has a weird color to it

There are 6 Tabs that show on that screen:
Main
Advance
Power
Boot
Tools
Exit

Is this the BIOS?
Or should I try running XP through a floppy?

Ok I think I have solved my problem... I still have to test it but another thing on the tutorial is that I don't have a actual copy of vista, its Just the recovery disk that came with the computer, does that even matter?
Title: Re: Vista to XP( Partition)
Post by: Jonas Wauters on August 10, 2007, 08:46:59 AM
Well you can try to putt the vista in first and follow the steps.
If this works that your safe to install XP otherwise we are going to need to find an other solution.
Don't install XP yet!
You need to be sure you can recover Vista

I still have the problem Loading up a CD-Rom at start. Even with the Vista Recovery Cd will not start up when I restart my computer. So I still need help with the BIOS. I have pressed all those keys, and still nothing pops up. The only Keys I know about are the ones I said up there, But I am unsure if its the BIOS or not.

Dual boot is so simple a hampster coudl do it.

VISTA IS NOT THE PROBLEM. Christ, all everyoen does is blame Vista. BLAME YOURSELFS.

Its most likely your monitor, I also have an LG flatron wide 19" but it works perfectly. And you can see my system specs below. Im on Vista x86 and have few if any problems and ive used the OS for over 6 months.

Try to go to device manager.
To access Device Manager:

• Right–click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
Look if there are any yellow marks.
And try to update the network card.

I am not saying you're ignorant, but I assume that you might not have checked the Minimum System Requirements?
And if you're running Vista on a Compaq laptop, I have to tell you that Compaq laptops are completely DUMB-FOWL !!!! (Described below)

----
D - Dumb
U - Useless
M - Muffled Sound
B - Broken within a few days
F - Fowl
O - Overheats Quickly
W - Woh! What have I done to damage it!?!?!
L - Like to bash it with a baseball bat!
