Title: Need Help!
Post by: Gamer-Girl on August 10, 2007, 12:03:01 PM
Hey I just set up a new wireless network for my house. First time! The Wireless Modem I got was a Linksys WRT54G, I set up the security and I have the WAP2 or something like that I know it has a 2 in it. Anyways i'm trying to make it work on my computer and my other laptop. I want to be able to use them both at the same time. But when I try to connect it either works or it says unidentified network, then it won't work and I have to restart laptop, connect, diconnect ETC, I was wondering if there is an easier way to do this so that when I turn on my laptop it automatically picks up the signal, no hassle, no disconnecting, unidentified networking! So yeah! If you need anymore info I would be glad to give it two you thanks.

What OS are you using?
What is your problem is the SSID not broad casted?
Or does it lose connection after a while?

How did you set up the network? (Just tell me what you changed, or did some computer specialist did it.)
Normally there wouldn't be any problem with using the Internet with 2 PC at the same time it should be able to work with more than 10 PC at the same time.
So I try to analyse your problem:
When you try to connect with the laptop the desktop loses connection.
And vista versa.
Am I wright?

Well it seems that 1/10 times, I will be on the internet and then my friend will be using the laptop and randomly sometime later it will lose connection. Also if laptop is turned off for like 30 minutes.. no connection when i turn it on and everytime when i try to reconncect it will say i have a connection but its a unidentified one so i can't go on internet.

What model router are you using?

In an address bar type 192.168.0.1 and then the username is Admin and password is either pass or password

Mess with the settings and reserve the IP's of your laptops. Also might want to encrypt your wireless so noone can hijack it.

You may need to update the driver for the wireless adapter on the laptop. If you don't know where to find drivers for it, tell us the make and model of the laptop or even better the make and model of the wireless adapter. Then someone here can probably point you to a driver download site.

You set-up the wireless network properly? The SSID is corectly written on all the devices? Same network range (1, 2, 3, I don't know) on all devices?
Where is placed your router and where are placed the laptop and the desktop? You would be amazed if I will talk about interferences or "wireless noise" = jam that could appear because of different objects in your house or the neighbours houses: a bluetooth device, another wireless router nearby, a microwave owen... I even saw a router that was not to be found if the computer was placed under a desk (is the drop in the power signal so significant?)
