I have an 8 year old Compaq running on Windows 98. I have difficulty logging onto the system and when I do, the text is magnified so large that I cannot perform any functions. Must be a virus? My question is, what functions can I perform while in Safe Mode? I have no problems with Safe Mode. I have a new state-of-the-art system and ultimately I'd like to be able to retrieve my important documents from the old computer and somehow transfer them to my new system. Any ideas? Thanks for any assistance.

It sounds like you are booting with a low resolution. Have you tried changing to higher resolution (in normal mode). Safe mode always uses 640/480 and it can't be changed in safe mode. Right click the desktop, select properties, click the settings tab, move the slider to the right, click apply. If the current resolution does not allow you to see the apply button, press A on the keyboard.
