Title: Help, Horrible resolution and color.
Post by: Ian D. on September 01, 2007, 03:29:50 PM
Oh god. My computer resolution and color are totally messed up. When I go to control panel and try and change my color and resolution all I can pick is lowest (8-bit) it's the only option i have... and my computer's had alot
better... I can't do System Restore because I guess it wasn't on. I think it's
running on Palettized mode. My computer says that's what it's running on when I try and open one of my programs. It says that it needs true color mode, at least 16-bit or 24 bit... Please can anyone help me?

I've got a gateway computer, pentium 4, 128-256 ram, high speed internet, Windows xp...

Is it a laptop or desktop computer?

How old is the laptop/Monitor?

The moniter is a LCD, and it's my third moniter. Probably within 1-2 years old this one. It's a desktop computer...  I don't know a whole lot about computer stuff when it gets into the deep stuff.. like example what i would do to reinstall the onboard graphic.. or if i even have one...

The last thing i remember that might have been the cause is maybe when a window popped up and was like are u sure u want use these new settings? (when i didn't do anything) put in "the" cd to use old settings or press ok for new, pressing ok might have u loose some data...
and so i was like what cd? and it's popped up before in the past and i just click ok because there's no way of getting out of that little pop up... the question wasn't exactly like that, but somewhere along those lines....

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Gateway)  (128 MB)

Armed with the above info go to the nvidia website, download and install the latest drivers.
http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html
You will have to navigate through the 3 boxes and keep your eyes open for removal directions for the old drivers.
(The disk it was asking you for was probably the xp disk.)
