i have a gateway destination computer i need to add a harddrive to it.it has a second port but what i need to know is will aftermarket parts work in it or does it have to be gateway equipment only.

more info on how many drives do you have ...and you dont have to have a gateway<emachines> hard.... drive??..you will find its either a maxtor/seagate/western digital drive...

i have two hd's one is a 4 gb hd and the other is a 17gb hd the 17 is fried i was told so i was going to step it up with a 160gb hd from maxtor but i didn't know if it was compatible with gateway. i wanted to find out if i could use it before i just bought it on the sellers word that it would work.

Original Gateway computer had 4GB HDD? You want to add a 160GB to it? Doubtful it will work.
