Title: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: zomgpleasehelp on October 06, 2007, 12:57:15 PM
Ok, So...

I turn on my computer, and it froze about 3 seconds after it turned on.
I rebooted it.
Froze again when the Disk Checking thing was running,
Rebooted again
Froze YET AGAIN when typing in my password.
Rebooted
Froze AGAIN when the little tune that windows 2000 has when your desktop shows up.
Rebooted.
Froze
rebooted
froze
rebooted
froze
rebooted
wow I got 20 minutes before it froze again. That's a new record.
rebooted
Froze
rebooted,
Froze

I don't know if it's a virus, Trojan, worm or something else.
I have an anti virus in my computer and it doesn't detect one.

AUGHH IT'S SOO ANOYING PLEASE HELP ME!!!! :'(

Sorry for the delay...

Ok, following the advice I followed to fix my PC, try this:

Start your PC in safe mode (press F8 while windows is starting up)

Delete your old Hijack this log file, run HijackThis again, perform a scan (with log) & then check the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [isamonitor.exe] C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object\isamonitor.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [none] C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object\pmsngr.exe

Select 'fix checked' then rescan & post the new log here.

zomgpleasehelp,

The fact that you are running two antivirus programs alone is enough to make your system unstable. You should choose one or the other and remove the other one.

Also, did you intentionally install WinSpy surveillance software? If not it should be removed immediately.

Fix these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinSys] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinSys.exe  <---WinSpy
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/ei/ZwinkyInitialSetup1.0.0.15.cab

Might as well fix these too while you're at it:

O23 - Service: ASP.NET State Service (aspnet_state) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_state.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: iPod Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe (file missing)

Reboot, then delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinSys.exe

Delete the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object

Then go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis and rename HiJackThis.exe to something else (e.g. zomg.exe) and then post a new logfile.

- JPH

So far so good,

Repeat the steps again & Fix these aswell:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://redir.speedbit.com/redir.asp?ID=7028

O16 - DPF: {01113300-3E00-11D2-8470-0060089874ED} (Support.com Configuration Class) - https://activatemyfios.verizon.net/sdcCommon/download/tgctlcm.cab

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebproducts/ei/ZwinkyInitialSetup1.0.0.15.cab

Then post the new log here...

I'll just sit this one out from now on & watch the master at work  ;)

Alright, I did what both of you said. Starting with what JPH told me to do.
Then I deleted the stuff Neljan told me to delete.
Oh, and I tried to delete

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinSys.exe

and

C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object

like JPH told me to, but the WinSys.exe thing was "Protected" or something and couldn't delete it.

the Video ActiveX Object directory was not found so I couldn't delete it.

hope you guys can still help,
and if my replies take a while, it's because I have to deal with this freezing problem like, every 2-10 minutes and I have to reboot while doing this.

Anyways... ::)

 this is what I got...

There are a few things that I suggested that you didn't do...help me help you. ;)

You're still running 2 antivirus programs (uninstall one of them)
You didn't rename HijackThis.exe (some malware hides from the HijackThis.exe process)
You didn't reboot (if you would have you could have deleted Winsys.exe because it wouldn't still be running in memory)

Please do these things and post a new HJT log file.

- JPH

BTW neljan, don't sit this one out...you were doing just fine before I got here. ;)

Thanks JPH

Zomgpleasehelp I'm still here aswell mate, don't worry we'll get this fixed...

I would have also recommended removing one of your virus software, if I didn't think that 'Avast! Anti-Virus Pro 4.7' was one program! doh!  ::)

Do you have access to another computer, if so you should download software to test your RAM and your HDD.
Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: zomgpleasehelp on October 08, 2007, 09:15:45 PM
Alright, let's see...

I uninstalled SpyBot and kept Avast!. (Since it's better and I actually paid for it :P)

I managed to delete the WinSys.exe this time... Last time I did reboot but didn't want to delete... ???

I forgot to rename 'Hijack This' last time ::)
So I did it right now and renamed it to 'o.o'

And Fed,
Do you mean access to another computer directly from mines?
if so I don't think I can.

I do have 2 more computers in my house though...

Anyway's this is what I got this time...

zomgpleasehelp,

I should have explained this better so I apologize. The two antivirus programs that I see are Avast and Bitdefender8, Spybot is not an antivirus technically it's an antispyware application. Since it doesn't have real-time scanning you could run it alongside AV programs and it won't interfere.

I meant another computer to be able to download the software to test your RAM & HDD.
Quote
I turn on my computer, and it froze about 3 seconds after it turned on.
I rebooted it.
Froze again when the Disk Checking thing was running,
Rebooted again
Froze YET AGAIN when typing in my password.
Rebooted
Froze AGAIN when the little tune that windows 2000 has when your desktop shows up.
Rebooted.
Froze
rebooted
froze
rebooted
froze
rebooted
wow I got 20 minutes before it froze again. That's a new record.
rebooted
Froze
rebooted,
Froze
Sure you may have all sorts of malware, I haven't even looked but your first post sounds like you have a hardware problem to me.
Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!

Fed,

I agree and that was my initial impression, but I was hopeful that removing one of the dual AVs and the multiple malware infections would stabilize this machine. So if the machine is still freezing and locking up after removing one of the antivirus programs then hardware must be the culprit.

Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: Fed on October 08, 2007, 10:33:49 PM
Sooner or later it has to be cleaned up anyway JPH.
I was worried the OP was fighting with lockups while trying to run scans etc.
The '3 second lockup' is a worry.

neljan,
It's great that you want to help, but please refrain from taking on any logs.  As straight-forward as it seems, it's more than just plugging filenames into a search engine or running a log through an analyzer.  There are various techniques and tools that a trained analyzer has at his/her disposal.  If you wish to be proficient in this area, it is strongly urged that you have some formal training (there are several free online courses).

The files you suggested were indeed bad and unwanted, so you haven't done anything harmful.  But it's easy to get confused when viewing certain files and you can do a fair amount of damage if you don't know what you're doing.  Heck, you can even do some damage when you do know what you're doing.  Heh.  You're more than welcome to participate on the forums, but please leave HijackThis to those of us with prior experience.  Thanks, and I hope you enjoy your stay here.

zomgpleasehelp,
JPH is doing a fine job so far and I have no intention of getting in his way.  However, I would like to chime in real quick.  You appear to have had a prior SmitFraud infection, so I'd like for you to check out this link, just to beon the safe side...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php

And I have to agree with the above...this sounds like a hardware issue.  Although your computer was infected with a few things, none of your infections should be causing these problems.  I'm not a hardware expert, but it sounds to me like either you have some bad RAM or something is overheating.  These should be looked into, I think.

Also...although you don't have to, I would suggest reinstalling Spybot because I think it's typically a good idea to have an active anti-spyware program.  The one you should disable is BitDefender.  You don't have to uninstall it, but you should at least disable it from automatically starting when your computer boots.

Point taken CBmatt... I only tried to help zomgpleasehelp as his post seemed to have been overlooked?

I posted a problem I was having after his post which JPH solved, I then went back 3 days later & noticed that nobody had still not replied to him.

Anyway, it's good now that JPH/Fed & yourself are helping him & as I said in my previous post, I will just watch from now & hope you can sort it for him...

zomgpleasehelp,

Since we all tend to agree, if you have removed (or disabled) one of your AV's and your system is still unstable then the next step is to test your hardware.

Please download and install PC Wizard 2008. (http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php) Run it and it will automatically detect your hardware, when it's finished click on the Save button and save the system summary to a text file. Copy and paste the text file to your next post. To better diagnose a potential hard disk problem we need to know your HD manufacturer so that we can suggest the proper tools. I suggest Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com) to diagnose a potential RAM problem. (maybe CBMatt or Fed would suggest something different?) Download the Memtest86 ISO image and burn it to a CD, then boot (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000217.htm) your computer from it. Please note that Memtest86 will continue to run until you manually stop it, usually the first few tests will be enough to detect a problem.

- JPH

Alright I deleted BitDefender and replaced one of the RAM sticks (I have three slots and only using two) but that didn't seem to work, So I'll replace my second one later on today if my comp doesn't lock up.

I did the PC Wizard thing and this is what I got

Ok. Like I said, I took one of my RAM sticks out and replaced with one I took out of my other computer. The RAM stick I took out of this one (the messed up one) I inserted on my secondary comp. Now this one hasn't been freezing at all!
Plus,
The secondary computer is experiencing the SAME problems this one was having! :o

 :D
 :D
 :D

I think you guys were right!

Maybe it was the RAM.

But,
These has happened before.
I think I had fixed it,
but it just freezes again and I sink into this feeling of lost hope. :(

Ok...
The 'boot' thing JPH told me to do...
I did it exactly like it said, but it didn't seem to do anything.
I went back and tried to manually stop it, but it hadn't even begun in the first place.

Anyways don't worry about that.
I'll come back and tell you guys if it keeps freezing.

 :)

Dunno what happened. I went away from my computer (still no freezes) while I was playing World of Warcraft (computer game) and my bro gets on the comp and I get back and he says he turned it off because it wasn't moving.

I don't know if it froze or if I simply got disconnected from the game, because it links to the web.

So I still don't know if it was something else or the game. It does freeze when you get disconnected, but only for like 2 secconds.

Still no luck with the Memtest...

Yep...
Definetly not the RAM...

Don't know...  ???

What's happening with memtest?
Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: JPH on October 10, 2007, 05:02:08 AM
zomgpleasehelp,

If you followed the instructions to boot from the CD and memtest still didn't work that makes me think that it wasn't burnt to disc correctly. To make things easier download and install ISO Recorder. (http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm)That way you can put a blank CD in, right-click on the .iso image and simply choose "Copy image to CD."

Also, if you want to test your HD as well you can download this (http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/SeaToolsDOS.iso) image. It's a bootable disc like memtest is.

Sorry for not chiming back in. Been kinda busy...

It's still freezing.
I copied the image to the CD using the ISO Recorder. It did burn the blank disc.
But still not able to boot from it.

You probably need to configure your BIOS to boot from CDs then.

Read the directions under Not setup properly in CMOS. (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000217.htm#03)
Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: Fed on October 13, 2007, 05:02:00 PM
I'm still convinced the easiest way to get memtest up & running is to Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.3 installable from Windows and DOS , double click the file and follow your nose... you will need to have a formatted floppy handy.
Set A drive (floppy) as the first boot in bios and boot it up with the floppy in the drive.
Title: Re: My retarded comp keeps spontaneously freezing. Please help!
Post by: zomgpleasehelp on October 17, 2007, 04:10:34 PM
Nope. Still can't get Memtest to work...
I did the thing with ISO about 3 times and still no luck.
I changed both RAM sticks and it keeps on locking up.

I changed the mouse, keyboard, and monitor just in case it was
one of those (out of desperation).

Still locking up.

I think I messed with the Nvidia options somehow...

Problem is,
I haven't got a clue how to access this "BIOS settings"
