Title: Ad Aware SE Personal
Post by: Emory on January 02, 2008, 08:26:53 PM
Beginning 1-1-08 there will no longer be Updates for this program. AdAware wants you to use their 07 program, for which you pay.

What are some other alternatives out there for controlling SpyWare, besides SpyBot?  ???

Version 2007 is available for home users for free already:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Their site (after a quick browse) says nothing about it going to pay-only. Where did you hear this? Sounds like a rumor made by someone who didn't like their software and wants others to change.

Thought I read it somewhere on lavasoft website. If I read incorrectly, then so be it. My error. >:(

Looks like the new version will not longer run on Win98.  :(

Any recommendations?

Well, you'll just have to rely on other means to protect your system.  Spybot Search & Destroy still supports Win 98.  You should probably spend some time visiting the websites of any other spyware removal programs you may want to use to review their system requirements.  Also, if you don't have a router, I recommend getting one, for the hardware firewall protection they provide.

Right.

Is it one that you recommend?   or are you mentioning it only because it will still run on Win98?

:)   Of course I can do that.
But I was asking for recommendations.

DSL here.   Modem/router all-in-one.

Willy...nothing to worry...
Spybot is very good. Also a-squared, and Superantispyware work for Win 98.

PATIO -  Thanks for the right track. When I originally said " AdAware SE was putting out no more Updates" This was accurate info. So I will DL the 2007 Version.

You may be able to keep running the current version and input the new definitions manually.
A friend at a Win98 Forum i visit is already trying to see if this will work.
Will keep you posted on his progress...

That's an interesting idea!    I hadn't even considered that.
Yes,  I'd like to hear what happens with his experiment.
Thanks.
