Title: POST and BIOS
Post by: P-38 Lightning on January 08, 2008, 10:53:08 PM
Hey, I have a problem with my system and I have run out of ideas on what to do next.

Every time I start my computer and it has been at rest for a good amount of time, 12 hours or more, it either hangs on the logo that pops up indicating the BIOS is about to load on POST, or when it turns on the fans spin and the computer loads nothing.

If i just shut it off and turn it back on the computer will work fine and has no problems during normal use.  I have tried reseating RAM, resetting CMOS, removed all but 1 PCI card, and am only using 1 CD drive.

Asus p5nsli mobo
2.13 ghz core 2 duo
ATI x1950 Pro
2 gigs of corsair RAM
500 W PSU

Thx.

How old is the computer? Sounds like the power supply might be going out.

i was suspecting the same thing, either the power supply or the motherboard. you may wish to swap power supplies with one from a known working computer. hopefully, it is the power supply.

an added suggestion, possibly the cheapest thing to do at first would be to replace your CMOS battery.
