Hi all my main computer's hard drive broke so i bought a new one and trying to install XP PRO (dont know my system specs) when i press f8 to agree to the term's the next page show's unpartioned space 6040MB
now when i press enter to set up windows xp on selected item it takes me to another screen saying it's made a new partion for window's to be created on then says "This partition must now be formatted" then has 4 option's
Format the partition using the NTFS file system (quick)
Format the partition using the FAT file system (quick)
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Format the partition using the FAT file system
Now if i select the NTFS (quick) it says it's formatting then the next screen says:
Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.
surely it cant be damaged as it's a new hard drive, so has anyone any idea's on how to solve this and install windows ?

Have you tried any other options?
I'd give the other NTFS partition option a go, and then try the FAT ones...
Any luck?

Format the partition using the NTFS file system (not quick) should be used, since it scans for bad sectors using the chkdsk command (quick doesn't).

i'll try it out and get back to you Broni

If this does not work you can DLoad and use the drive manuf. utilities to prep the drive for an OS install.
