No. They won't even fit in the slot.
Newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+1052107965&name=184-Pin+DDR+SDRAM) got plenty of DDR 1 RAM to choose from.

At least it sounds like you haven't already made the purchase. Oh ouch i recently did and now i have 2 sticks of 1GB ddr2 240 pin 128x64 ddr2 PC2 5300 un buffered sticks i cannot use. If anyone needs them and would trade a 1GB PC2700 dim 184 pin and a 512 MB PC3200 non-ecc 184 pin for them please PM me and we can set up an exchange. truenorth

in my opinion, it is simply not worth it now to buy DDR RAM. they cost about the same, if not more, then DDR2 RAM.

Homer, yes your pricing comments do reflect reality. But if they don't fit--they don't fit and then you have to buy the DDR as i just discovered. truenorth

well, DDR ram slots not ok with DDR2 memory. Where did you buy your DDR2 ram that you now cannot use? If you can return it, all the better.

Hope it all work out for you and I suggest you do the research or ask here before you buy the things if you not sure.

well here's my comps layout.
-----------------
Dell OptiPlex GX150
Pentium III at 1GHZ
256MB DDR1 RAM
8MB Dell Video Card

i've checked dell's website and my comp only works with DDR1 RAM.

elxr06, very good advice. however i took the specs of the 2 computers i wanted the additional ram for with me.one a Sony vaio and the other a Compaq presario. I went to my favorite techy store near Atlanta (Fry's) and handed the data to the clerk in the "memory' dept. and said i want a 1 GB ram for each of these 2 computers. What i posted was what they gave me and what i bought. In fact the Presario will only take a total of 1GB and it already has a 512MB in it.The Sony will take another 1GB in addition to the 512MB that is in it.Unfortunately i shall not be returning to their location from over 1500 miles away until April and given the wrong ones were bought in Nov.2007 i logically don't think even though they are unused that they will take them back. If i cannot swap them with someone i may try to return them in the spring. i thought i had taken the precautions necessary to avoid getting the wrong memory but it seems not. truenorth

well, good luck with that. although fry's computer guys should be knowledgeable at it, I would not just assume that they give you the right things. I was wondering sometimes that if I ever went to store to ask, maybe they'd purposely tell me the wrong things to sell them to me ... you know the deal with just human nature.... LOL...

But here's easy way to figure out... you should have downloaded CPU-Z, then go through the tabs to get all the specs of your computer (it tells you everything you need to know in terms of motherboard type, memory type your computer supports, how much memory you have, etc) and start from there.

It is Fry's error and the squeaky wheel gets the grease...
Contact them and explain the situation...
Request a Postage Paid return envelope for the RAM and demand a refund.

You may want to mention your a member of a large computer user's Forum ( you are ) and they may not want the negative publicity if it's not satisfactorly resolved in a timely fashion.

Patio,Thank you for the suggestion.Certainly worth a try. I happen to have one of those phone plans that allows me to call anywhere in Canada and the U.S.A without incurring long distance charges so i will call them shortly on the phone and base an argument on your suggestions and go from there.truenorth

Patio and others, It certainly was not my intention to take over this post by macdad however i do have information to provide after the suggestion of Patio re my own experience with purchasing the wrong type of memory sticks from Fry's in Duluth GA. this past Nov.
I contacted the store by telephone this morning and was initially rebuffed due to the customer service rep. telling me that there is a 15 day maximum return allowance on ram memory. However after the appropriate degree of protestations as to the circumstances as to how i was induced to purchase the wrong ram she elevated (by herself) an inquiry to a higher level and the result was a satisfactory solution. While they will not send me a prepaid mailer they have accepted that if i (at my expense) return the 2 sticks to their store they will have head office mail me a full refund (of course i must include copies of the receipts). I guess the lessons are 1. be as carefull as possible in determining the type of product you want and 2. be persistant when you seek to rectify any errors made in supplying you with the wrong product as to obtaining compensation. thanks again. truenorth

hey .... at a store, customer service should be top priority especially at a store like Fry's!

MY computer system I'm using now, I bought it from office depot on sale, and they said they'd ship it to me within the month I ordered it. It never came and I found out it got sent to wrong place.

They didn't seem to care and going to the store again did no good as they said they couldn't do anything about a "misdelivered" mail.

But I emailed them and the mail apparently got sent to the manager of the store since he personally sent me an email to tell me that he'd already taken care of my problem to make me happy and within the week, the store called me up to tell me they have something in stock which they're just gonna give me for free (after having refunded all that money I paid for getting nothing) and good thing they gave me something better than what I originally got just for all the troubles.

So if you are certain the store's giving you crap and you know what's going on with the crap, just scream your head off at them and they'll make you happy and make sure you scream at the higher guys and not those dudes that don't give you your dues  ;D
