Title: Computer shuts down
Post by: KennyJ on March 17, 2008, 09:03:28 PM
RE: MSI M7061  N1996 Board
Turn on - starts fans running - shuts down. (5 seconds)
If I unplug the power (12v) terminal on Mb the other power fans keep running.  As soon as the Mb has power it shuts down and I assume it takes some time to reset.  There is 12v to the Mb.
Is the problem with the Mb or the power supply cutting out under load?
Was working great til the other day.  Had a short power outage and this happened within a couple days.
How/where do I check the board?
Thanks,
Ken

It is easier to check the power supply first. See if you can find a friend who has a spare power supply and see if that helps.

You could also try running the pc with just the bare necessities and see if it works then. Unplug all cd and dvd drives. Take out all non essential pci cards. You can even take out all but one memory stick. This will reduce the load on the power supply. If it works when running under a minimal load, it is most likely your power supply. Trying a different power supply is the best bet though.

check and make sure your heatsink/fan is operating correctly and also make sure the power button isn't held down at all.

As what betaa said, check your heatsink if it screw tightly  on its place..
