I recently connected with AT & T expresscard to my desktop
I, for one, have no clue what you mean. If this is something unique to AT & T expresscard, perhaps you'd better explain in detail how it's supposed to work because it's possible no other forum members have used the service you're talking about.
Are you simply talking about logging on to an AT & T expresscard account via your web browser?
-
I am sorry I am not to computer savvy.....I connect to the internet with an AT&T express card, that is my problem........I show I have an internet connection but when I open internet explorer it shows no connection........
-
I connect to the internet with an AT&T express card, ...
Anybody else know what this means? I don't.
Look, makeupnurse, AT&T express card is a credit card, right? It's a piece of plastic. Now, how do you connect to the Internet with a piece of plastic?
Can you see why I think you need to clarify your question?
-
Option Express Card is a wireless card It is not a credit card...........It is a wireless card.....It is like a cardbus but smaller. It is a piece of hardware ,,,,,,,,from AT&T to connect wirelessly to the internet..........It goes into a slot on my computer.........
-
Does desktop connect, if connected to the router by hard wire?
-
Yes . And I have connected before but not able to open internet explorer yesterday or today........It works fine on my laptop so it is not the card
-
Where do you actually plug laptop-type wireless card into your desktop?
-
USB adapter
-
Did you try different USB ports (front, back)?
-
Yes I did the card says I am connected as well as the network connections...........But when I try to surf the web as in open internet explorer or mozilla it shows on the page unable to display page.
-
If you go to Device Manager, are there any errors listed?
-
no
-
I suspect my browser is the problem how do I tell???????????
If not what????????????
In Network connections it shows I am connected, but will not open internet browser
-
You can always try Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/, but let's see, if you're really connected.
Go Start>Run, type in:
cmd
Click OK.
Command Prompt window will open. Type in:
ping www.google.com
Hit Enter.
Report back what it says.
-
I'm thinking the network connection isn't being logged onto since there is more than one on that machine...
-
Ok here is the results:
pinging www.1.google.com [209.85.165.147]with 32 bytes of data;
reply from 209........;bytes =32 tiime=118ms ttl=241
(it repeats this four time)
then ping statistics for 209.85.165.147;
packets sent=4 received =4 lost=0
approximate round triptimes in milli seconds min 116 max118 average 116

I'm thinking the network connection isn't being logged onto since there is more than one on that machine...
more than one what? Remember I am not very computer savvy
-
ping command shows, you do have connection.
Now to clarify couple of things...
What Windows version is it?
You said, you tried IE, and Firefox, correct?
Then, once you said, you can't open browser, and later you said, you can't actually open any web page. Which one is it?
-
Sorry, to clarify I can open the browser but it says unable to display web page......can not locate server........Thank you so much for your help
Windows XP
-
Go Start>Run, type in:
cmd
Click OK.
In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Restart computer.
-
tried this It still shows unable to locate server can not open page............Shall I just give up????????this is driving me crazy,,,,,,,I know it should work since I used it on this machine before.
-
Try one more command from Command Prompt:
netsh int ip reset
Restart computer.
-
Nope still the same
-
I'm out of options, other then trying different network card.
-
Thanks so much for yout time and effort Be Blessedd!!!

I wish, I could have helped more....

Wow! I figured out the problem was with my anti virus Zone alarm
Even after I put my connection in the trusted zone it would not let me connect
The only way I figured it out, was when I had another desktop working on it and then I inserted my card and connected to the internet, then decided to install Zone Alarm on this computer as well,,,,,,sure enough all the sudden I could not get the computer to recognize the connection as soon as I opened the web browser it would show unable to locate page,
I have contacted Zone alarm to try and find out why it did this.
Bottom Line .......at least I know it was not the computer!!!!! Wow problem solved

Nice job!! :)
