What i am asking is.,What do i have to do to Make Windows 2000 Safe to get on Line With??? ,I Have SP4 Installed.

Do you have any antivirus software on it?

I understand it (the software/the computer) might not work very will because of those specs. I have a very old computer laying around here and I have the antivirus completely deactivated. I only activate it to run a full system scan every week.

2k is better then 98.  You probably have trojans or something in the 98.

I think your problem may be Windows Messenger.

Windows XP and Windows 2000 both have a software program called Windows Messenger installed and loaded by default. This software allows you to send and receive messages directly from one computer to another. Advertisers have now discovered how to abuse this option to send advertisements direct to a users screen.

Google for: disable windows messenger 2000
You will gets tons of information on Windows Messenger

How do I disable Windows Messenger? Here is a good link.

With 64 MB of RAM, I wouldn't even bother...

Broni, the computer with 64 MB is his old test computer. No doubt his "main" computer has a bit more.

Geek001 didn't mention anything about Windows Messenger

Well, excuse me Carbon Monoxide, but did you read this:

the thing is is that when i got online with it for the first time, just to test it out,i just went to google.com.and less then a minit, addware poped up

That sounds exactly like Windows Messenger popups. I had the same problem when I switched from 98 to XP. I took an educated guess that the popup in less than a minute was most likely Windows Messenger. If everybody that posted a question here knew what their problem was, they wouldn't have to ask. Sometimes we have to read between the lines to answer their question. I think that I'm on the money, but if my guess was wrong, he can let us know.

Also he asked for help here:

Windows Messenger is a program or service that is not needed and disabling it will help his on line security by stopping thousands of pop up adds, some of which would no doubt link him up with spyware.

Right now, until he replies, we don't know what the problem may be.

Also, Please don't mention my cousin, Carbon Monoxide like that.

Sorry about the Monoxide reference Carbon.  :'(
I must have been suffering from Monoxide poisioning at the time. Please don't bring me up on formal charges of "Name Abuse". I can't afford the third strike on my record.  :)

Hey Geek,      Do the popup windows say Windows Messenger in the title bar?      Or is it back to the O2 tent for me?

That is bad! Just when you really need a pop-up, you can't get one.  :)

2k is better then 98.  You probably have trojans or something in the 98.

I'm still pondering this little gem...

Which part? The '2k is better than 98' part or the trojans part?

Personally, I like Windows 2K better because it can download drivers automatically.

The latter...the OP stated they were 2 different machines which makes this statement illogical.

Perhaps Squall made a statement on his opinions and then made another statement related to finding the problem...  ???

??? <-- we need another emoticon to demonstrate confusion like (http://www.fileupyours.com/files/185178/msn.PNG)

It was squall's statement that was illogical...
Have the messages gone away since turning off Messenger ? ?

Programs such as this that use deception to say you have problems and then take your money are known as "scumware".
