The Firefox Community is trying to set a world record for the amount of downloads in one day.
"We want to set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. With the backing of our community and your help we know we can make it."
** Get the Firefox 3.0 here (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) ***
Admin edit: Adding the download link
-
I've pledged. Whether I'll be using it at release is a different matter, but certainly I'll download it.
-
Same here. I probably won't use it either.
-
I probaly will forget
-
If you pledge and insert your e-mail then they'll be e-mailing you when it happens. Sure it will be mentioned on the forums too.
-
Done.
And i like the logo alot...
-
525,818 pledges, so far.
Oh, i just refreshed the page, and...526,104
-
I like that interactive map.
Only 2,182 in Hong Kong???? Time to make some emails :P
...on second thought...
*stands on roof of school with a microphone*

Thailand - 2,029
quaxo! What the heck is wrong with you??
-
My home country, Poland - 40,364
Not bad, considering...
Germany - 21,704
France - 21,508
England - 18,451
Italy - 21,006
-
Madadascar____32 !
-
Something is missing....where is San Marino?
-
I got my count in!
I'll get the other guys in the shop to do the same ;D
-
How about Singapore - 2,039?
You just came from there...did nothing?
-
While there are a massive amount of computer users in Thailand, most of them know little about computers and stick with IE. I try to promote Firefox whenever I can though.
-
Maybe, you should try some better effort as a TEACHER.....LOL
-
Well, mostly I teach English, not computers. The people I do teach computers to are quite knowledgeable and already use things like Firefox. I just teach them how to do their jobs better in English. For example, one of the companies I am currently doing work for does computer security, business software, and server hardware. They know all about computers, but some of their technical support personnel need to improve their English to be more effective with international clients.
-
I'm just teasing you.....:)
-
I'm just teasing you.....:)
I know ;D
Just thought I'd clarify what I really do outside of the shop though. :P

I sure hope their servers can handle the load on that day. There hoping for 5 million downloads. That would be around 34 Terabytes :o
-
If they're smart they will include links to other download sites that host FF downloads. majorgeeks, filehippo, betanews and so on and on.....
-
Closing on 1,000,000.
It just passed 925,000.
-
I didn't check this site: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp for a while, and FF looks pretty good:
-
I've also noticed an increase in FF users on Computer Hope. Also surprisingly Safari is climbing the charts too. Recent stats:
1. Internet Explorer - 59.91%
2. Firefox - 34.64%
3. Safari - 2.25%
4. Opera - 2.04%
5. Mozilla - 0.87%
6. Konqueror - 0.10%
7. Netscape - 0.08%
8. Camino - 0.02%
9. Playstation 3 - 0.02%
10. Playstation Portable - 0.02%
-
They hit 1,000,000 pledges today, now at: 1,024,510
-
Nice :)

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008.
-
What happens to the target count if lotsa willing helpers download FF3 on 17th local time which could still be 16th where Mozilla Corp is domicilied or should we wait until 18th while it's still 17th in CA?
-
I'm pretty sure, Mozilla servers can read your computer IP, and it'll know what's your local time.
-
Anyone running Safari is outta their mind right now...
The exploit was 2 days after the new release and i haven't seen a patch since the news release...
Thank Goodness it's only 2.25 %
-
Their last security update for Safari was almost 1 month ago: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222
-
Does not include the Windows ver. if it does the exploit was after the April 2008 update.
-
Last I read Microsoft and Apple were still disputing who needed to fix this issue. What's unfortunate is Apple's decision to have this as an option to install during the QuickTime update.
The conspiracy theorist in me wants to think Apple is doing this to make Windows and its users feel unsafe and/or at risk and Microsoft doing this because they don't want to loose anymore users to an alternative browser.

Today is the day.

Today is the day.
It's been this day for most of today... (currently 5:00pm)
-
Here is the final. http://www.filehippo.com/download_firefox/
-
Does downloading from Filehippo count for the record though?
I wonder why it's not yet on Mozilla's site.

not sure, seems strange. I'm downloading my copy right now, just in case. If it becomes available on mozilla, I might download it again just to make sure it counts. ;)
Edit:
An article just showed up on /. saying that the firefox3 download day will start at 10am PST today
http://tech.slashdot.org/tech/08/06/17/1250229.shtml
-
Depending on your time zone, some are 10am, some are 1pm.
Not sure if just downloading the installer counts. Installing it would count no matter where you get it from.
-
10am PST
PST means Pacific Standard Time. Sorry for the confusion. :P
-
The record they're aiming for is downloads, so I assume that just downloading it would count.
To the best of my knowedge the pledge I made didn't ask me to install it, just download it.
I wish they'd made the time known beforehand, I've been waiting around for the download for what seems like ages now, and I still have half an hour to go until 6PM GMT (or 10AM PST).
-
I can't even get on Mozilla's website right now...
I keep getting "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable"
-=EDIT=-
Oh, I've finally been redirected.

-
dang. So much for a record. the servers are down. :(
-
They fixed the homepage finally.

Downloaded.
Thanks for the update.
-
Downloaded. Need to work through my 20+ tabs before I can install though.
-
Added this thread link to the news displayed at the top of the forums to help the effort.
-
Tab Mix Plus is NOT compatible. Very disappointing!!
-
I wonder how the record is going....
-
I'd imagine they would of prepared for the heavy load of traffic and with that preparation and the site still going down it has to be going better than expected.
I still can't access their world record page either.
-
They have updated the blog twice today. http://blog.mozilla.com/
-
Thanks for that link evilfantasy. Not too much news as far as their progress so far today. Would be nice if they posted a live counter on their page that updated total downloads.
Managed to get through all my tabs and installed 3.0 and these are the plugins that no longer work for me:
8aweek
Forum Additive 1.0.09
Free Download Manager Plugin 1.3.1

Also not working:
Tab Mix Plus < Very upset about that!!!

Ahh good to see it's up and they do have a counter, now at: 1,882,842

it's dead again............
-
I'm still getting it,
Total Downloads

The numbers seem to be changing ???
Edit: Changing as in the wrong way lol.
-
I think something is wrong with their numbering algorithm. 20 minutes ago it was over 3 million and now 1.2 million?

Got it 30 minutes ago. Installed without any problems, but....
...number of add-ons won't work. Hopefully, they'll be updated soon.
Tab Mix Plus is NOT compatible. Very disappointing!!
Can't agree more...
-
I don't use any add-ons.... actually, I haven't noticed anything different about ff3 besides the gui. I guess that's what happens when you copy all the config files from the old installation to the new one..... ???
-
I've noticed that when downloading it now runs a scan for virus automatically at the end. Very cool!!!
-
MR. Tech Local Install will enable your non-updated Extensions to run...
Manager Hacks/Behaviour...check Disable Extension Auto uninstall...
Then Miscellaneous/XPI install Options...uncheck "Enable addons compatibility checking"
Re-boot and re-install the Extensions that are not working.
-
I was gearing up to PM you on how to use that Patio.
Mind reader!!!!! (http://bestsmileys.com/magic/1.gif)
-
Well scratch that. Tab Mix Plus will not even install due to not being supported :(
-
Tried the beta several weeks ago but it was too bugged and stuck with 2.0.0.14
Today the new one, luckily more proper than last month. Still, it seems slower than FF2. Especially at start up.
I've Read stuff about faster rendering of pages but *censored*.. what counts for me is low resources and fast program behavior in its entirety (ok, start up speed has priority but..)
Forums and such don't require much fancy stuff anyway!
What do you guys think about it? Or better: what changes did you experience so far?

Link (http://gizmodo.com/5017416/microsoft-mistakes-browser-war-for-browser-party-sends-firefox-a-lovely-cake)
Just like they did when Firefox 2 dropped, Microsoft has sent the guys over at Mozilla a congratulatory cake. The nerd food was delivered in person and was graciously accepted by the Firefox crew, who managed to hold back snide remarks about the cake's standard compliance and proprietary recipe long enough to take a few pictures. At least Microsoft has a sense of humor about their eroding market share.

Up to: 4,213,647 downloads
-
Gonna get it when I get home. ;D
-
Installed it yesterday. A few observations.
My Yahoo home page no longer renders correctly. After cycling through all the Yahoo layouts, the third column is too wide and forces horizontal scrolling.
The load time for Firefox 3 (7 tabs) is 40% slower than Firefox 2. Memory usage (the same 7 tabs) jumped from 73MB to 123MB and the giveback when closing tabs was minimal. Task Manager showed more VM giveback than the Memory Usage.
Re-installed Firefox 2. Will wait for Firefox 3 updates.

Installed on one of my computers (the one I don't use very often).
It's not bad. Zoom feature is cool. I don't like the Address Drop-down menu.
I think I'll go with Sidewinder and install it on my laptop later on in the future.....
76,000k ??? ??? All I did was open ComputerHope :o

Total Downloads Region Downloads

I downloaded the portable apps version and am running that with no problems yet. ;)
-
I'll be waiting for some more reviews etc before installing . . . I'm happy with FF2 and don't really see much to persuade me to upgrade yet.
-
I haven't been able to figure out how to install flash on portable ff3 without having administrator privileges. :(
Besides that, I like the new version. :)
-
Firefox post on their world record page:
Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we got more than 8 million Firefox 3 downloads in 24 hours. That’s more Firefox downloads than we’ve ever had in a single day -- an impressive feat indeed!
Please be patient while the good people of Guinness review our World Record attempt. This might take a few days so please check back here. And, a huge thanks for all of your support!
-
Installed without a problem, but...I really missed Tab Mix Plus, so I tried to install Mr. Tech, and it screwed up everything.
I had to totally uninstall FF, and go for fresh install.
I had backups, so it wasn't that bad, but I'm definitely missing some incompatible now, add-ons.
-
So, I got tired of add-ons incompatibilities, and I went back to FF2.
I simply can't work without some addons. I'll wait until authors will catch up.
-
Somehow it keeps "transferring data from ..." the hotmail server whenever I am in my hotmail box. Truly annoying and along with the decreased performance as far as I experience. I'm back to FF2.
Never thought Mozilla would someday make software with such behavior ??? that's really a µsoft thing
-
µsoft
I like the above abbreviation :)
-

I don't like the word itself :)

Does North Korea have something against Firefox? Nobody downloaded firefox from there or Timor-leste
-
I think North Korean's dictatorship has something against Internet, as a whole...
-
I really missed Tab Mix Plus

North Korea has something against everybody! They probably have it censored/blocked along with other 3/4 of web pages they block.
-
Thanks evil, but I still have some other add-ons not compatible with FF3, so I'll wait for few more weeks, before full switch.
-
I saw a documentary on North Korea and the majority of the population doesn't even know what the Internet is heck most of the general public don't even have telephones and mobile phones are banned; TVs are also all government controlled. The government likes to keep it people oppressed as much as possible. Really sad and unfortunate. I still have a lot of fears about what's going to happen when Kim Jong-il dies, since a lot of the people are so brainwashed that they think of him like a God.
I think this satellite image pretty much tells the whole story of the condition of North Korea:
