My computer usually boots up within 15 seconds. It just started today by booting slowly. It now takes about 2 minutes to boot up. It's not the background processes. The xp screen that shows the loading bars, it takes about two minutes before the screen flashes, when the screen flashes within a few seconds it will boot, i hope you know what i mean by that. It used to flash relatively fast and then boot. Anyway my system specs: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP3, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.81 Ghz, 2.00 GB Ram, TForce 590 SLI Deluxe Mobo, Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT graphix card.

The link you provided did not help. I have plenty of free space, no overheating, no conflicts, I just defragmented the C drive, I ran CCleaner, Spybot search and destroy, and avast. It just all of a sudden did this. Now that I think of it, I believe it started loading slowly after a windows update.

Download HostsXpert (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Hoster_d4626.html) and then follow the steps below:
* Unzip HostsXpert.zip
* It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
* Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
* click the Make Writeable? button.
* click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
* Click the X to exit the program
Did you install SP3 recently?
Also, you have nVidia hardware firewall running. Is Windows firewall on, or off?

Windows firewall is on, that d**n thing installs itself secretly. I had to update my ethernet drivers because the ones that came with the mobo sucked and wouldnt let me disable connections.
I installed SP3 awhile back, never gave me any issues, it was just like a security update or something that I installed right before I noticed XP booting slowly.
I also just used the HostXPert program.
I also forgot to mention, since i got my new motherboard I've been having issues with admin rights. I am the only user on the computer and I am the admin, but when I change things around in msconfig It keeps telling me that I may not have admin rights. "An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes." It keeps giving me that error, but it still makes the changes, it's just quite annoying.

It should disable nVidia firewall.
Restart computer.
Post new HJT log afterwards.

Open Notepad.
Copy, and paste text below:

just to clarify, all of the things that i am preventing from starting up have never given me problems before, and i can guarantee are not the issue, but thanks for helping me get rid of a few more startups. I'm down to 0% CPU usage.
I also do not want to have to reinstall windows, or repair, I just had to reformat and do a clean install because i just got a new mobo just a few weeks ago.

Download, and install CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds. Get "Slim" version.
Read CCleaner instruction here: http://www.jahewi.nl/ccleaner/ccleaner.html, and run CCleaner
Restart, and let me know about startup time.

The link you provided did not help. I have plenty of free space, no overheating, no conflicts, I just defragmented the C drive, I ran CCleaner, Spybot search and destroy, and avast. It just all of a sudden did this. Now that I think of it, I believe it started loading slowly after a windows update.

It's not a startup after boot issue, it's a boot issue, you know the page where it's black background says windows xp with the loading bars. That page is there for an extensive amount of time. It used to be around 15 seconds, now it's almost 2 minutes.
The day this issue arrived at first it booted fine quick 15 seconds or so. Then I installed the windows update, rebooted, and then all of a sudden it took around 2 minutes to boot.
I quoted a previous post of mine to show you that I already said that I ran CCleaner.

How is booting in Safe Mode?

My computer gives me no option to boot into safe mode. Also, now XP is having trouble detecting my dvd drives. Now it only detects my drive and not my burner, and sometimes it wont detect either one after reboot. Windows is really starting to piss me off. I think it's about time to go Mac or Linux.
Forgot to mention Phoenix Bios recognizes both drives.
I also just opened the case and unhooked both drives and hdd and hooked them back up. Still not recognizing.
DVD burner drive does not show up in device manager.

I just restored to 18 days ago, xp boots in 9 seconds. So i guess that's my route. Thanks anyway.

That obviously wasn't the culprit. The restore worked until I started to install the disc that came with the mobo. Then after reboot xp took forever to boot. So now I'm reformatting drive, and im not using the quick option this time. My HDD has never been formatted without using the quick option. It may be a problem with the mobo, which sucks because it's brand new. Anyway, I will post something after I do a clean install.

Did a clean install and xp booted quickly. I then installed the drivers from the disc that came with the mobo, and all of a sudden xp boots slowly again. The blue bars travel across the screen exactly 75 times before the boot but, once xp does boot my pc starts up extremely fast. Before I installed the chipset drivers the blue bars only traveled across around 15 times, which is the way it used to always be until yesterday it mysteriously started taking longer. This really aggrivates me, especially because I just did a clean install. Oh well, that's Windows for ya.
Problem is now SOLVED. It was just issues with the nvidia chipset drivers. I downloaded the latest installers from the net completely uninstalled old drivers, and then installed new ones. XP boots quickly and normally again. Thanks for all of the attempted help and gained knowledge.
