Hi everyone. I am cornered on this problem. I need help. I had this xp pro sp2 on my computer and whenever I had problems with viruses or bad software installation, I just back-up files and fresh install because I don't have enought technical know how to tweak. But this time is different. I use the same xp cd to fresh install, format ntfs single partition 40g hdd. It goes through up to the set-up copy files readying for xp installation and request to booth and it did, only to start to installation all over again and again. A tip from a site, I tried to booth win98 to fdisk and format but it won't find/detect the hdd. But bios is detecting it. All advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Two common reasons this may be happening:
One: The hard drive has errors/bad sectors or is failing...
To test this DLoad and run the diagnostics from the HDD manuf. website...they are FREE.
Two: The RAM you have may be having the same symptoms. Remove each stick you have and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol or Jack Daniels and re-insert them.
Then DLoad and run MemTest...let it run for a few hours. Any errors at all and you have a bad stick of RAM.
